CHAPTER 1

vessels: a hollow utensils for building something

stays: a strong rope or wire that used to steady or brace something

booty: money or goods taken in war or by robbery

prow: the bow of a ship

quartering winds: wind coming from direction behind and to the side.

baubles: an object of little value

shaft: the long handle of a weapon (as a spear)

head wind: a wind blowing in a direction opposite to course especially of a ship or craft

hull: the frame of body or the ship

scudded: to move or run swiftly (clouds scudding across the sky)



CHAPTER 2

bouquets: a bunch of flowers

hospitable: generous and friendly in entertaining guests.

brow: the ridge on which eyebrow grows/ the upper edge of of a steep slope

lolled: to hang or let hang loose



CHAPTER 3

mutiny: rebellion against any authority

exiling: a person banished>> depart from his or her native land.

bailing hooks:

moor: to fix firmly;secure

smith craft: The art or occupation of smith >> a worker in metal

agile: quick and well- coordinated in movement

bowels: feeling of pity or compassion

vigil: wakefulness maintained for any reason during the normal hours for sleeping

phlegmy: calmness, composure

disembark: to go ashore from a ship

gullet: a channel of water
