Chapter 4 Summary
Ulysses and his crew goes to an island to get food, but that island was where the cyclopes live. The largest cyclopes is Polyphemus. His favorite food is human flush. The men run up the hill because they smell goat meat cooking. But Ulysses walks slowly with his sword. Suddenly Polyphemus eats two of the men right there. When Polyphemus tries to eat another man, Ulysses tries to stop him by offering wine. He also tells him that his name is "Nobody". Finally Polyphemus falls a sleep and Ulysses and his men plan to escape. While the men hold onto Polyphemus' head, Ulysses stabs his eye and blinds him. While Polyphemus runs around the cave, Ulysses and his men escaped the cave hiding under the bellies of the goats. They get on the boat and Ulysses shouts to Polyphemus his real name. Polyphemus gets angry and throws a big boulder and most of the men die. Polyphemus prays to Poseidon to punish Ulysses.

Responding to literature
Please respond to the following journal assignment on your wiki page.
1. Please describe Ulysses-what does he look like and act like? Try to be specific.

In the first three chapter in the book, Ulysses is portrayed as a leader in the ship. He also seems to have a greedy personality
because he likes to carry a lot of gold and treasures in the ship even though food and water is more important. But other man
respect him and Ulysses acts like a strong leader.

He seems to be a strong men but has a tired face. He has a wide grooved brows sunken eyes, red hair and jutting chin.
He acts like a true leader and takes a good care of his men. For example, he carries them one by one to the ship while they
are sleeping. Being a responsible leader, he focuses on his duty and forces himself not to fall asleep. He believes in his dreams
and luck. His very calm and careful when making decision. For example, while Eurylochus wants to attack Lotusland, Ulysses
stops and thinks twice.

Ulysses plans things carefully, helps his man at all times and proves that he is a true leader. He sacrifices his sleep so that
he and his man escape successfully. I think Ulysses will continue to be a the leader for his man. I am excited to see how he is
going to react to the future events.

2. Why did Ulysses' men betray him and open the bag of winds from Aeolus? What happened to those men?

In the chapter 5, Ulysses get a bag of winds from Aeolus. Aeolus said do not open the bag but Ulysses' men betray Ulysses and open the bag of wind from Aeolus. Ulysses' men betrayed Ulysses because they couldn't believe Ulysses and they were greedy. Ulysses didn't sleep for 9 days because he can't believe men, that's why the men couldn't believe him too. There was a sound when Poseidon was following them, but the men thought that sound was a sound of gold coins. So they get greedy and finally they opened the bag of wind.
The winds came out and they began to chase each other. And they got freedom so they screamed and jeered and laughed, growing and reveling in their freedom. And the wind started to blow backward and it was going back to island. After Ulysses arrived at the island, he left his crew at the beach and goes into castle. After that, he gathered his weary men and made them board ship again. Actually nothing happens to crew.

3. What would it be like to live on Cannibal Beach? What problems would it create to have a quicker cycle of day and night? How do you think this kept Ulysses from discovering what the trees were?

I think living on Cannibal Beach will be dangerous and tired because giants can eat me and hard to sleep because of
the quicker cycle. The quicker cycle of day and night changed sleep time and food time, so I think these are problems.
I think the darkness was the problem for Ulysses to notice that was the giant.
