Summary of Chapter 1:

After they had dropped of much of there booty, they were blown to a part of Africa known as Libya, or Lotusland. In this place people ate nothing but lotus; the flower of sleep and dreams. This land was watched over by Morpheus God of Dreams, who had been given this flower by Persephone, and had planted it in the land. When they had reached its water Ulysses ordered his men to drop rowboats and go ashore. When they reached shore they were so tired that they went to sleep. The lotus-eaters came out of the forest and put heaps of lotus flowers around for the men to eat. The men awoke and ate large amounts of the lotus before falling back to sleep. When Ulysses awoke he roused himself and relaunched the ships, leaving the island.

Responding to literature:

What Ulysses would look like

According to the novel, Ulysses had wide, grooved brow, sunken eyes, red hair, and a jutting chin. Because Morpheus easily recognized him as a hero. It is obvious that many heros looked like him. I believe that he would be muscular and fit on the outside and wise past his years on the inside. I also believe he ay not have been as strong as other heros because he used his mind much more.

What would it be like to live on Cannibal Beach?
Living on Cannibal Beach would be horrible. Because night and day followed each other so fast no plants would be able to grow, if no plants could grow the things that eat plants wouldn't be able to live there. So if they couldn't live there, there would be no game to hunt. Another problem would be that we as humans need sunlight for our bodies. Sunlight gives us vitamin D, a vitamin that helps supply nutrition for our bodies. Also because the sun moves so fast it would be really hard to sleep, and everyone needs sleep.
