The land is named like this because Morpheus, the son of Hypos, the god of

dreams. The flower was called the lotus and Morpheus planted them in Libya
where it was summer all year. Morpheus always read people's dreams in Libya
making them sleep all the time. When Ulysses came, Morpheus gave all the
crew good and hopeful dreams, when he realized Ulysses was a hero and read
his dream without any bright thoughts added by Morpheus.The lotus' kept on
putting sleep to Ulysses and the crew. Ulysses overcame that and continued
his voyage to what he had always dreamt about the past 20 years, seeig his
family.

Readers Response
The way Margot gets treated by other students make me angry. Although she does not talk a lot, they do not seem to trust any word she says. They refuse to listen to her at all and even locks her up in a closet. This manner of disrespecting others makes me feel furious and unpleasant to see.
Thematic Focus
You should recall your actions and should truly be sorry at yourself. It is embarrassing and nasty to torture one, especially one of your classmates to see for a few hours what she had craved for and wanted for so much. You should be sorry for yourselves and to Margot.

to do. In chapter three, after seeing his family in his dreams, Ulysses overcame
all the sleep with only one thing in his mind,his beloved folks.
In class assignment for Fri., Sept.11, 2009. Assignment due Mon. Sept. 14. Answer the following journal question. What would it be like to live on Cannibal Beach? What problems would it create to have a quicker cycle of day and night. How do you think this kept Ulysses from discovering what the tree were? Post to the wiki/journal/response to literature. Life on the Cannibal Beach will be painful and frustrating every day. With only a few moments of light and dark, I would not be able to get any proper sleep. However, before I can even take a nap I will have to hide or run away. The gigantic cannibals would attack as the sun appears after a few moments of night. I would find no good place to hide as the beach is full of the legs of the giants disguised as trees. The reason why Ulysses had a hard time discovering what the trees were was because when he was climbing the leg, it was night. However, as the sky paled again, he could fortunately realize that it was the cannibals and quickly fled from the beach. I would not want to stay at this beach and risk even for a few minutes.
Journal Entry #4 Ulysses - In Chap. 9,The Wandering Rocks, Ulysses has to decide what to do for himself. All of the advice that he has been given turns out to be useless. What does he decide to do? Have you ever been in a situation that required you to make an important decision on you own? How did you decide what to do?
He decides to take the difficult way. He reluctantly goes to Sicily because he is blocked by huge moving rocks. I am currently in the situation that requires me to make an important decision on my own. I still have not decided whether I should go to Beijing, China, or not. Few of my friends do not go and few of them do. I am not sure what to do, but I feel the cost of this trip is too expensive. However, I believe that I can make special memories with my best friends and the teachers. I am 70 percent sure that I might go, but I feel bad for my parents to work so hard to pay for my extremely short trip. I should make this decision before today ends, o I wish myself luck.
Journal Entry #5 Ulysses has gone through much physical and mental hardship. Through all of this he has been determined to return to Itacha. What people and/or places in your life would you be willing to fight as hard as Ulysses to get to/see. Explain your answer. As it would be the same for other people, my family is the most precious being in the world. I would be able to fight as hard as Ulysses to get back to my family. After my family, I would happily sacrifice my life for my best friends because they are the people who can understand me the best and are very similar to me. As I think they are my clones(and I am their clones) I would use all of my ability to go to them and meet them. I would also try to reach home as it can comfort me and help me to achieve what I have to do.
