Don't you just hate it when you get a call and it's not the person you wished it were? It's even worse when the person on the other end of the line is a salesperson. One minute, you're excited to hear what the person on the phone wants to tell you. The next, you're listening to an endless jabber about toothpaste and a weight loss plan that 'really does work'. Then, you start thinking and realize that the person you wished would call might call just when you're on the phone with a salesperson. You start to try to get the salesperson's attention away from the toothpaste and begin to tell them that you aren't interested when you are come over with a feeling -the slightest feeling, but it's still there- of sympathy. But, with an implausible excuse, you hang up anyway. After all, to you, it's just another rejection for the salesperson. Dot woke up at a quarter to seven. She had had another one of those dreams, those dreams that always left her to cry when she woke up. The dream wasn't a bad one, oh no, but a good dream- a dream she hadn't wanted to wake up from. And the fact that she woke up from each dream was what made her cry. -Inspired by Socrates- :D
Delicate little drops
Marking the day from night
Sitting peacefully on a leaf
But always aware.
Always on the lookout
For those disturbances to come
For the time when they will fall
Off the leaf
Into the ground
Into the Earth.
And from this,
We must learn a lesson.
We are the dewdrops sitting on a leaf,
The humans standing on this Earth.
Never knowing when we will fall,
When we will surrender.
So until then,
We wait.
Peacefully.
We learn to make the past happy-
To stop nagging at ourselves for the things we cannot change.
We learn to await the future,
We learn to accept it.
And in the meanwhile,
We enjoy the present. Compare and Contrast -Picture of a Leaf and Picture on a Website

Compare: They are both basically the same things: leaves with dewdrops on them. They are both plants, both fertile and alive.
Contrast: The picture on the PDF file is in black and white, whereas the picture on the website is in color. The picture on the website looks more alive and green than the PDF picture. The website picture has the dewdrops almost falling off, but not quite, whereas the PDF picture shows the dewdrops still and motionless. The background of the website picture is a beautiful rose, whereas the background of the PDF picture is wood. The picture on the website has a thin long leaf, but the PDF picture has a leaf that is big and shaped like a tree. o_o PictureSenses - Picture on Website
The picture shows a apricot-orange-coral colored rose in the background and another rose peering out at the side of the frame. Right next to the rose is the leaf of the rose. It's small compared to the leaves on trees- long and thin, with small sharp edges. With the shape, it almost looks like grass. The roses and the leaf have dewdrops almost about to drop off. It smells faintly of the sweet smell of roses, with a hint of the fresh, distinct able scent of dewdrops and water. You can almost hear the sounds of the dewdrops dropping into the ground. If you taste the dewdrops, you can taste the fresh, almost sweet dew. Socrates - "Man's life is like a drop of dew on a leaf."
I think that when Socrates said that man's life is like a dewdrop, he was talking about a lot of different things. First of all, it shows that there are millions of people on Earth, and that you are just one of them, and that even though you are one in a million(s), you still count since every dewdrop is special. But I think that his saying is also referring to how life is short. Dewdrops dry up not long after morning has passed, and I think that Socrates was saying that our lives are the same, and that we should live life to the fullest while we can before it's too late. The simple version? Enjoy every minute of your life while you can. Journal Entry No. Three: - January 30, 2010 Freewrite
There are always consequences to your actions. Whatever it is- whether it is big or small- there is always the result to follow. It could mean simple little things in life that happen to everybody. For example, you could forget your house key. Then, the outcome is that you're locked outside the house. But there are larger things that cause even larger reactions. If you talk about somebody, people will eventually find out. If you lie to someone, the lie will be revealed. The lesson learned is that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction (science! o_o). For every hurtful word, another friend is lost. For every lie, your trust is faltering. Actions cause a chain of reactions, and that's the lesson we must all learn. Journal Entry No. Four- February 1, 2010 Close your eyes briefly. The color of the pencil case is mustard yellow and it is a rectangular shape. It has a small black zipper a little off the middle and lining against the zipper on both sides is a lace-like design of felt in a dark forest green or navy color. On one side, the lace is thicker than the other, creating a nice design. It has a small label on one of the shorter sides (since its a rectangular shape) which says "Design Feel - 9". The yellow of the pencil case is smudged with many little streaks of graphite and some of the cloth is worn down. Onions Are Fun (PDF 28) - February 1, 2010 Ideas for Writing: Imagine that you are an onion that is about to be sliced onto a hamburger.
As I saw the sharp knife descending on my little onion buddy, I bit back a scream. My friend stared at me in desperation and pleaded with the cook, but the cook didn't hear. The cook quickly finished up with my friend and I stared at the little diced slices of onion that once used to be Timmie. Then I saw the cook looking at us other onions looking out from the netted orange mesh bag in which the cook bought us in. The cook, whose name I had recently found out to be Roberto, reached for the bag and all us onions screamed in terror. Who was next? Was it going to be little Eliza or Old Man Bob? Or....me? Roberto the Cook reached for an onion, and we all tried to run to the back of the bag. I was there close to first, and I was praising my running skills. Just then, I tripped over another onion. Ow! I rubbed my body- my outer layer was feeling bruised. I forgot about everything but my wounds until I was suddenly grabbed by a huge hand. I cried out in pain and fear, but the cook ignored me and carried me over to the cutting board. What did I ever do to deserve this? The knife got closer and closer. I wriggled around, but my little hands and kicking legs were nothing for the big ol' cook's strong hands which held me down as he decided how he wanted to cook me. I twisted and turned, trying to get out of his grip, but it was no use. The knife was only an onion's husk away from me. He smiled and said "AHA! A hamburger, that's what I'll make with this little 'un!" I sobbed as the knife of onion-deaths past came closer and closer. I closed my eyes and waited for the pain to come, when I felt a sharp little pain in my abdomen. When I opened my eyes again, I was in a white land where my friend Timmy was grinning at me. And that's the story of my short-lived life on Earth, so if you're also an onion, don't worry. In onion heaven, there are no cooks and absolutely NO hamburgers. Journal Entry No. 5 - February 3, 2010 Silly is a middle-aged man who who combs his remaining limp strands of hair into a elaborate swirl over his bald spot, gluing them in place with hair spray and hoping no one will notice.
Silly is a golden retriever who slinks sheepishly off the sofa whenever his owner comes home, hoping despite the piles of hair all over the cushion that she wont notice he's sleeping here. What else is silly? Give three more examples.
Silly is a 9 year old girl who screams in terror every time she sees a fly but laughs when she rides a roller coaster.
Silly is a little girl who, at a carnival, wants the big teddy bear and won't back away until she gets it, despite the countless number of stuffed animals she already has.
Silly is a boy who throws tantrum for the littlest things, but does not hesitate to smile for huge problems he should be getting angry at. Interpreting a Picture (PDF 83) - February 3, 2010 What is your interpretation of this photograph? Turn it upside down and sideways for different views. What is it? What could it mean? How and where was it taken?
I think it looks like a man with a round head who has a small pointy nose, curly hair, a smirking mouth, and best of all, HUGE sunglasses when the picture is looked at the way it already is on the PDF file. The man looks mysterious and sneaky, and he seems like the kind of person who is pleasant and nice, but on the inside, scheming. I think that it could mean that people are different from how they present themselves for the first time and how they really are when you get to know them. This is where the saying comes to place 'Never judge a book by it's cover.' Don't judge people by their appearances because they just might fool you. I think this picture was created in a dark studio with a sparkler being twirled around quickly.
Discuss this image with at least three other people. Then summarize their interpretations of the image. Christine HJ thinks that this image is that of an angry rabbit, and that it represents animal cruelty (fur) because the rabbit is upset at its fur being used for the superficial wants of humans. Sarah thinks that it is a person with sunglasses who is lying on the couch and being lazy. She thinks the message of the picture is to stop laziness since people are often overcome with it. Fiona thinks that this picture shows a coach potato or a beanbag with sunglasses lying on the couch, and believes that it shows the hypocrisy of people everyday because it creates a controversial image- a person who is not going outside doesn't need sunglasses.
Imagine that the image is a symbol of some kind. What could it symbolize?
The image symbolizes inner personalities. It represents how the people who you think you know on the outside are actually completely different people on the inside. You might think a person is quiet and kind, but on the inside, they could be thinking loud and rude thoughts. Imagine that this is a newly discovered animal. Describe it.
It is an animal that hides from the light everyday, so it's a wonder that it was discovered. It's home was stumbled upon on New Year's Eve when three children wandered away from their parents to retrieve a rubber ball they had lost a few days ago. Seeming like the perfect animal- kind, gentle, and cute, it showed it's real self when one of the children took it home to play with. It glows in the dark and provides light for the humans when there are blackouts in the city, so it's a real handy animal to keep. Journal Entry No. 6 - February 4, 2010 Today's Prompt: Describe your bedroom the way you want it to be.
On the outside, you would never be able to guess how colorful the room was. The door of the room was just a simple tall white frame with some decorative carving on the freshly painted wood. A rectangular wooden sign that was made up of the colors salmon pink, light green, and white was hung on a nail that had been carefully hammered into the door. Once you opened the door, your eyes needed some adjusting to the brightness of the colors in the room. Most things were plain- a wooden white bed with carvings similar to that of the door, and on top, a clean baby blue mattress, covered by a turquoise colored bedsheet. The pillows and blanket were a lighter teal. Next to the bed, there was a little (you guessed it!) white drawer and on top an alarm clock and calendar. The closet and the bookcase were also a simple and white, and the clothes and books inside were neatly organized. The desk was a clean white desk with many things stacked neatly up on the desk. The chair was a bright lime green that had a cushion to keep your back comfortable. The things actually in the room weren't as interesting as the wall itself. The wallpaper was a light cream color with light orange, lime green, and amaranth pink polka dots. Due to the colorful designs on the walls, the room was bright and exuded happiness. Thesis Statement - Journal Entry No. 7 - February 8, 2010 Fatima is a very spoiled teenage girl. Show that she is spoiled, by describing what happens when she doesn't get a car for her birthday.
"And now, the biggest present of all!" Fatima's parents blocked the doorway as Fatima tried to peek in to look at the big surprise. She hoped for a car- a red convertible. All the other girls had them. She squealed as she saw that the present was so big that it needed to be in a separate room. For days now, she had been hinting her parents on her absolute need of a car, and now, her wishes had finally been fulfilled. Fatima's father grinned and told his daughter, "I hope this present will come in good use for my little girl. I can't believe you're already sixteen!" Fatima smiled and waited for her parents to move aside so that she could take a ride in her new car. Her parents, their faces beaming, stepped aside so that their daughter could open her present. Fatima rushed in and her face fell in dismay. There was no car in here. It was an empty room. The walls were covered in beige wallpaper, the table was a simple glass creation, and the stools were small and of no real importance. Fatima was beginning to realize that she wasn't getting her car when she saw a box. Of course! The car keys were in the box! How could she have ever doubted her parents? She smiled smugly as she opened the gift-wrapped box. The ribbon was soon unraveled and the wrapping paper was soon ripped off. Fatima held her breath and lifted the lid of the box. And..it was.... a pair of earrings?! What? Where were her car keys? Fatima slowly turned around to question her parents and saw their looks of joy and pride. "Where are my car keys? I told you I wanted a car." Fatima's parents exchanged a look, and after a moment of hesitation, Fatima's mother said, "Sweetie, don't you think you're just a little too young for a car? And besides, look, the earrings have your initials engraved on them." Fatima just couldn't take it anymore. She picked up the tiny earrings and threw them on the floor. "I TOLD YOU I WANTED A CAR! WHY CAN'T ANYONE LISTEN TO WHAT I HAVE TO SAY? I TOLD YOU I WANTED A CAR!!!!! IS THAT SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND?!" Fatima's parents stared in confusion. "Well..", Fatima's father stuttered. "If that's what you really want, then you'll get it." Fatima's father walked out of the room hurriedly. Fatima's mother picked the earrings up and followed her husband out. Fatima smiled in content. It had turned out to be a good birthday after all! Journal Entry No. 8 - February 10, 2010 Write a paragraph about a cat attacking something, but don't use the words hiss, scratch, or pounce.
3...2...1...and..."Tigger!" Tigger whirled around in surprise. His owner Maggie, a little girl with golden curls, was smiling at him. "What are you doing down there? Let's play Tiggy!" Tigger grimaced and turned back towards his target: a beat-up teddy bear with a little pink dress and a matching ribbon. Tigger crouched down into his attack position. Once again, he began to countdown. 3...2...1...and...LEAP! He gracefully lunged at the fancy-schmancy teddy sitting peacefully on the sofa. Tigger began to destroy the teddy bear that had made him feel so lowly for the past few days and released all of his stress. When he finally lifted his head once again, the teddy bear's nose was gone and the ribbon had been reduced to shreds. Tigger purred in satisfaction. "Tigger! How could you? My teddy bear!", Maggie wailed. "I'm telling mommy!" Maggie stumbled over to her parents' room, and Tigger knew that he would be getting in trouble. He didn't care. It had all been worth it. Frustration >: ( Frustration smells bitter and it fills your entire nose and almost leaves a sour taste in your mouth as well. Frustration looks like the mood your in when you're frustrated- dark. Just like how it looks, frustration smells dark, like black licorice. It smells like black licorice because it is meant to be sweet but it turns out to smell strange- sickly and too-sweet. It's a dark twist of red licorice (red licorice is what victory smells like :D). Frustration can be sweet in a good way, too. Why do people read books? Is it just a way to relax, to get your mind off things? In my opinion, reading is a way for people to get away from everything that is going on for a while. It's a way to think about the problems of others, the misfortunes that fall on the protagonists of the books. A book is a way to forget what's happening in your life and to loosen up. After reading a book, after discovering the difficulties others have been through, you can think, "Maybe my life isn't so bad after all". Reading is a way to soak up knowledge, a way to discover things you never knew before. It's a way to fall into other peoples' shoes and realize how your life could have been. It's a way to fall into a wonderful world of magic and love when you have none. And most importantly, it's a way to enjoy your day. Journal Entry No. 11 - February 18, 2010 Us the following words in a story: little boy, torn page, market, and cart.
. The market was busy. Very busy. People were bustling around, all with different purposes. It was strange to think that all these people were here for such different reasons, but that the market was the solution to all their problems. The market itself was an area roped off from the rest of the town in which the less fortunate of the town sold their last possessions. It was also the place for the thieves of the town to gain their dinner for the day, and for the sly ones of the city to rob people of their money. There were children huddled around a small corner, begging for money to buy their sick sister medicine, with a tattered hat held out by the tallest boy.
. There were dozens of carts that held fruits and vegetables; blankets to sell; shoes for those who could actually afford them- the carts held everything that needed to be held in the marketplace. Tents were draped all over the market. Some, like the Ruggers (rug-makers), had colorful works of neatly stitched works laid out into a bright cozy manner, luring people in to buy their famous rugs and blankets. Others, like the Grimes (who were in the label "Less Fortunate"), sold their last few articles of clothing and shoes that they had earned in tents with raggedy blankets and a gloomy brown settling over them. One of the tents, however, held something quite unusual.
. It was the tent of Henry and Jennifer Grimes, young scholars whose money had slowly run out. Located behind another tent and unnoticeable from the front of the market, the tent rarely had customers. There, in the dark 'backseats' of the market, were books- hundreds of books. They all had sentimental value to the Grimes, and were all purchased and read with care, but it had come to the point where all the Grimes had left were books. So along came the need to sell the books, as much as it broke their hearts.
. One day, the Grimes finally realized that with the little customers they had, they wouldn't be able to pay for their fees of living for another week, so Henry Grimes decided to do something about it. Around noon, he dug out his old wooden cart from behind piles of books. He stacked up some of his books (fortunately, they were books neither one of the Grimes read often) and strolled outside to where the other tents were. He went around every corner in the market, showing his books to the customers and tent-owners. He was about to reach the tent in which the owners sold dried fruit when suddenly, he tripped. His cart had accidentally run over another tent-owner's feet. Embarrassed, Henry Grimes apologized in a hurry and practically ran back to his own tent. Little did he know that in his hastiness, he had dropped a book on the ground.
. Rickie Dreen was a little boy who had just picked up a torn page from a book on the ground. It was ripped in various places, and there was a smudged footprint imprinted on it, but the words were still readable. Rickie sat down on a large boulder next to his parents' tent and began to make out the words. It was about how a turtle had run a race faster than a hare. Rickie read the page quickly and when he flipped over to the back page, he read about a fox and some grapes. Rickie finished the page and when he realized there were no more stories, he began to look for the whole book. When he finally found it (ironically, it was somehow under the boulder he had been sitting on the whole time), the sun was setting. He set the book next to his small fluffy bed made of rugs from the Ruggers and as he tried to fall asleep, he read the title: Aesop's Fables.
. Rickie Dreen finished his book in a week and read it once again in another. He read the book over and over until he could remember each and every story in the book. He decided that he needed another book. So around three weeks after he had first found Aesop's Fables, he walked over to the other tents and looked for a place that sold books. He had been searching for two hours (there were a lot of tents) and he had lost hope. He sat down and began to reread his copy of Aesop's Fables. Suddenly, he heard a man say, "Isn't that my book?" Rickie looked up and saw a man pushing a cart with many books piled up in it. Rickie nervously explained how he had come to have the book. The man looked at Rickie suspiciously and suddenly laughed. "I can lend you some of my books. I have some really fun storybooks you might like." The man smiled at Rickie. Rickie grinned back. This was how Rickie Dreen's love of books began.
. Twenty years later, Rickie Dreen was a scholar. He was in his mid-twenties, and lived in a tidy house with a wife and two children. He went to the library every day and checked out five books at a time. His personal library in his office was expanding quickly. Right next to his neat desk was a small bookshelf. It was where he kept all of his favorite books, the books he never got tired of. And on the top shelf, looking out of place from the other well-kept books, was a old, battered copy of Aesop's Fables. -The End- Random Journal Entry (Not No. 12) - February 21, 2010

When I'm out in the rain, and the little drops are falling on my umbrella, I can see them and because the umbrella is clear, it feels as though the raindrops are falling on me. I quickly make a change of plans. I change into a raincoat and some sweatpants, clothes I don't mind if wet. I grab my umbrella and grab my boots. I wait in front of the elevator of the apartment as I wonder what I'm exactly planning to do. As soon as the elevator doors open on the first floor, I can smell the nature-y freshness of the new rain. I open my umbrella and begin to stomp in rain puddles and skip around, twirling and twirling in the dampness of the rain. Journal Entry No. 20 - March 18 , 2010 Please write for 3 minutes on this cliche “ice running through her veins”
She woke up in a room, a room she had never seen before in her life. It was dark, but she could make out the outline of a desk and a door. Tears began to drop as she wondered what she had done to get her into this kind of trouble. After a minute of silent crying, she decided that crying wasn't the best idea at the time. She suppressed her whimpers and cries of fear and began to breathe in and out slowly. In...and out...in....and out.... She began to settle down and her cries became sniffs. Suddenly, she heard a screeching sound. It echoed throughout the dark stone room, and repeated over and over her mind. She began to gasp in fear and struggled to keep her calm. Just then, a cold laugh made ice run through her veins. Journal Entry No. 22 - March 29, 2010 Blurp! Slosh! Snort! Write a paragraph incorporating at least ten onomatopoetic words. Onomatopoetic words are words that sound like what they mean. Beep beep beep! The ringing alarm clock made it's way into Mary's dream and she soon sat up in bed, rubbing her eyes sleepily. She made her way into the shower and slowly turned the handle of the shower knob. Whoosh! Suddenly, ice cold water splashed all over her. She shrieked in surprise and shivered. She changed the settings so that the water was just right. When she was done, Mary quickly got dressed and went to the kitchen. Ruff! Her dog barked and looked up at her with excitement. Mary petted her two year old beagle, grabbed a bagle, and made her way to her small car in the driveway. She was getting ready to leave for school when she heard a buzz. It was a bee. Mary swatted at the bee until it flew out of sight, and began to drive to school. When Mary was half a mile away from her school, her tire ran over a sharp shard of glass. Hiss. The tire was slowly deflating. Mary groaned. This was just what she needed. She called a car mechanic and after the problem was solved, Mary made her way to school. She was late, but her teachers understood the situation. That afternoon, Mary came back from school and set her backpack on the chair in the living room before going to the kitchen to get a glass of orange juice. She was pouring the orange goodness into a clear glass cup when she suddenly heard a "bang!". Mary's hand flew up in surprise. The orange juice carton slipped out of her grasp and made a huge puddle on the wooden floors. Mary gasped. She decided to see what the bang had been about when, SLIP! she fell into the puddle of juice. She went to the garage, where the banging was going on. She saw her younger brother playing with pots and pans....and spoons and forks. Mary sighed and took the cooking utensils away from her five year old brother. He began to whine. Just then, the telephone rang. Ringringring! Mary picked up the phone and heard her friend's voice. "Mary, let's go out tonight to have some fun tonight. You know, to get rid of all the stress?" Mary replied, "Sure. Gosh knows I need it!" Journal Entry No. 23- March 30, 2010 People often say, "If we can send a man to the moon, surely we can figure out how to..." Living forever, is it really a good thing? In many books and movies, immortality is one of the causes of conflict. One example is Pirates of the Caribbean. Jack Sparrow (hehe) will do anything to become immortal. Is this really a good idea? In the story Tuck Everlasting, people see another side of being immortal. The characters of the book show that everlasting life might not really be a good thing. Think about it: Living forever means you can’t die. That sounds obvious, but it’s much more complex than that. If you’re close to someone who can’t live forever, you’ll outlive them for centuries. You would have to see them aging while you remain the same age as you were, say, 50 years ago. If you had the choice of living forever, would you take it willingly, knowing that you could never take your answer back? I wouldn’t. For me, life is something that is lent to you, for as long as you’re on this earth. It’s a present, but it’s only natural that one day, you’ll give it back. However, if you live forever, you’ll be permanently keeping that borrowed gift. If I was offered the choice to live forever, I wouldn’t take it. Journal Entry No. 25 - April 7, 2010 Reflect on the process of writing a short story. What did you enjoy about it? What was difficult? How would you approach it differently if you did it again?
Writing a short story was harder than I thought. The thing I really enjoyed about this assignment was creating a whole new character as if she were actually a person. I enjoyed being able to make my character Kaylee really have a personality. The most difficult part of writing my short story was beginning it. All the little ideas flying around my head didn't seem like they would work. Once I got my idea, however, I thought that my story would be easy to write. And...it wasn't. My story took me a long time to write, mainly because I didn't know how to end it. I didn't know what to make the characters be like, so it was hard creating such a complex story from scratch. Another difficult part was the length of the story. I felt that if only I could add a few more pages to my story, I could really end it the way I wanted to. However, the limit of the pages you could have stopped me from writing all out. If I were to do this assignment again, I wouldn't write about something to do with unrealistic things, like the potion that makes you lose your memory in my story. I would write about real problems that people have today, instead of an almost-not quite-sort of-sci-fi-slash-fantasy type of story. Journal Entry No. 26 - April 7, 2010 A person's choice of a dog is said to express something about his or her personality. Choose five individuals whose names are well-known internationally. What kind of dog would you choose for each. Why? Explain.
1. Lady Gaga - A tiny poodle with dyed pink and green hair. o_o
I would choose this dog for her because Lady Gaga loves glamorous things and a poodle would be the perfect accessory for her. And knowing how Lady Gaga dresses, she'll probably dye the dog's hair crazy colors. Poodles love attention and so does Lady Gaga. They're creative, just like Lady Gaga (ahem, look at her clothes!).
2. Miley Cyrus - Golden retriever
First of all, I think she already has one, but I would think of her to have one because she's usually laid-back and fun loving, just like a golden retriever. She's in the spotlight 24/7, and golden retrievers like to be praised (so do most dogs in general). I imagine that Miley Cyrus would be friendly, and so are Golden Retrievers.
3. Bill Gates - I would give Bill Gates a Yorkshire Terrier.
I would choose a Yorkie for Bill Gates because he's a bit quirky but smart and Yorkshire Terriers are also a bit different. Although a Yorkshire Terrier might be a bit too... girly (?) for his taste, I think it would fit him. That, or a little beagle. :D
4. Kim Yuna - Maltese
Most people in Korea have Malteses, but that's not the only reason I would choose a Maltese for Kim Yuna. She's fun, and she seems so easygoing. I can just picture her with a fluffy white dog in her arms. I can't really imagine her slender figure with a larger dog like a golden retriever. Malteses' are also known for their small size. As a figure skater, Kim Yuna seems more elegant and graceful, and I think that a Maltese would be perfect for her. :)
5. Angelina Jolie - Border collie
I would choose a border collie for Angelina Jolie because first of all, she has children. Border collies are perfect for playing with children since they're energetic and intelligent (considered the most intelligent breed of dogs). However, sometimes border collies are not the best for households with YOUNG children, so maybe a golden retriever would be better. They're friendlier-looking . :D Journal Entry No. 27- April 8, 2010 Write a four-line song or poem about mayonnaise.

Suicide. It's a touchy subject for everyone. But a few weeks ago, while I was out buying stuff with Fiona, we discussed suicide and the aftereffects it has. In my personal opinion, suicide is a way to give in to stress and pressure and isn't at all necessary. Instead of facing your troubles and standing strong, you're giving up and ending everything right there and then. Also, one of the most common reasons for suicide among teenagers (esp. in Korea) is school and academics. The pressure from parents to do well in math, science, and other subjects affects students greatly and stresses them out until they also believe that without good grades, they are nothing. The aftereffects of suicide are also terrible. Although it might mean that you are given an easy way out of your problems, it only causes MORE stress for family and friends. They might feel guilty or depressed. All in all, suicide may be a way out of everything that worries you, but it just isn't worth it. It causes too much sadness and grief for everyone. :( Journal Entry No. 29 - April 15, 2010 Write about a time when you and a friend, sibling, or parent bonded.
I bonded with both my brothers around the same time. My younger brother and I always used to be closer than other sibling relationships, but I talked a lot to my older brother too. With my younger brother, I can go back to when I was around his age and just let go and have fun. Sometimes, with all my homework and piles of things to study for, I forget that I sometimes have to relax and take a break. A few years ago, when I was still living in America, my brothers and I used to play a game when we rode the car. Because we were so bored, my older brother made up a game using his fingers and made them look like little people and we played like that for hours (especially when we took a trip to Yellowstone National Park- that car ride was LONG!). It made us all closer and after that day, we would play the game (which we called Freckly, haha, I'm not really sure why) whenever we road the car. This one game from years ago made us so much closer. Eventually, my older brother's voice changed and he could no longer make the high voice that was required to play Freckly, but we still remember the days when we used to play the game that brought us all together. :D Journal Entry No. 30 - April 16, 2010 The Climb lyrics Songwriters: Alexander, J; Mabe, J;I can almost see it
That dream I am dreaming
But there's a voice inside my head saying
"You'll never reach it"
Every step I'm taking
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking
But I gotta keep trying
Gotta keep my head held high
There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be a uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb
These are a few of the lines from the song "The Climb", sung by Miley Cyrus. This song has inspired so many people since it came out. It's a song about never giving up, and always reaching for the top. What I imagine when I see this song in my mind is myself walking up a great big hill of my accomplishments on the path to the top. The song talks about how even though at some point in your life you will get knocked down and fall straight on your face (haha), you should never give up. It says that although sometimes you can't win, it doesn't matter. "The Climb" talks about how the road to the top isn't about going the fasted or about what's waiting on the other side of the metaphoric mountain. It's all about the fact that you never gave up and that you kept on going, even when you feel like you just can't take it anymore. What I feel when I listen to this song is that although sometimes there will be people (or maybe even yourself) telling you that you can never make it, you shouldn't listen to them. You have to take your own road, like the poem "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost. You have to decide for yourself and never let go of your dreams. :D

Do you believe that you contributed to the group as much as others? What was your role? Did you learn anything new about yourself and how you work in groups during this project?
We had to meet up at Fiona's house on Friday and we stayed there for around 6 hours, just filming and editing our commercial. It definitely took a long time to edit and refilm and rerecord because we wanted things to be as perfect as possible. I think I really contributed to the project a lot. Because the iMovie was done on my Macbook, I edited the whole thing. Blehh. I had to hold my computer up and film Emily, Sarah, Fiona, and Christine HJ playing with socks and then edit out all the messed up scenes. Then I had to make ad-like signs and also add background music and notes. I learned that when the project is on your computer, you're more serious about getting the work done. I felt like I was doing most of the work because it was on my computer.. I learned that although it was fun making this commercial, it was really hard work. Journal Entry No. 33 - April 22, 201 Pick a character from a day time soap opera. Put him or her in a stranded commuter train. Write about what he or she is feeling or thinking at that moment.
My character: Not sure yet. I'm just going to call her Nicole. She's rich and snobby. and MADE UP. :D
She grimaced in disgust. She didn't deserve to be in a place like this. She was Nicole Overto, heiress to the Stargate Hotel (also made up). How did someone like her end up in a mangy old subway? Well, at least she had gotten a seat. She had practically pushed the old little lady in a race to get to the seat first. Although, Nicole was no longer sure if the seat was worth it. The man sitting on her right blew his nose loudly. Nicole wrinkled her nose and scooted a little to the left. The little boy on the left pushed her back with his sticky, licorice-holding hands, and Nicole gasped. How dare he! Her white lace dress now had faint red fingerprints on them. The boy's mother looked at her apologetically and wiped the boy's hands clean with a wet tissue. Nicole groaned. How had she ended up like this? How? Why? She felt suffocated in her seat. What did she do to deserve this? After what seemed like hours of being trapped in a metal box, the subway finally reached Nicole's stop. She exhaled in relief and practically jumped out of her seat. Nicole grabbed her handbag and pushed her way out of the subway doors. She inhaled the sweet sweet fragrance of non-subway air and made her way home. 'Thank God,' she thought. 'I'm never going back there again!' Journal Entry No. 34 - April 26, 2010 You can tell a lot about a person by what he or she says. Here are some things Grandma Dorothy always says.
"You can never be too dressed up."
"A woman should never ask a man to dance."
"He is quite a snappy dresser."
Based on these sentences, imagine what kind of person Grandma Dorothy is. Write a paragraph describing her. Feel free to use any or all of her quotations.
Grandma Dorothy is strict and always goes by the rules of the old days. She's old-fashioned and gives tips about love and dances that only really worked a few decades ago. Grandma Dorothy looks down on skirts that don't go up to your knee, and she makes her grandchildren wear vests and blouses everyday. Grandma Dorothy criticizes her daughters' choices in husbands and despises her son-in-laws' mothers. Grandma Dorothy is also proud. She doesn't accept help or charity, but instead likes to show off that her life has been successful. Grandma Dorothy, however, will bloat up with happiness when her grandchildren get A's on their report cards or her grown-up children get raises. Grandma Dorothy is different, but is still like any other parent or grandparent- she cares! :D Journal Entry No. 35 - April 28, 2010 Write from the point of view of a freshly scrubbed floor.
Ahhhhhh. I know I'm just shining. I'm glistening, aren't I? I took a nice long bath yesterday. It's been a while, since the owners of the house aren't exactly neat freaks, but I'm good now. Seriously, I could feel dirt and grime layering my body for a while there, but now, I'm back to my clean old self. This way, hopefully I can catch the eye of that handsome refrigerator. I personally think we would be perfect together, but he's always sticking his nose up at me. Ooh, look! The cabinet on my right is looking at me! Gotta go! Journal Entry No. 36 - April 29, 2010 Is there a cause you care about a lot? How far would you go to stand up for what you believe in?
A cause that I care about is animal rights. I am really against people testing products on animals or using dogs as shark bait (There's a Facebook group on this so I'm not really sure about this but...). I guess I'm being quite hypocritical here, since I eat meat myself, but these days, I've been eating less meat and more veggies. But mainly, I'm against products being tested on animals because the products (say cosmetics) that are being tested on animals are not guaranteed to be safe. For example, if a certain type of makeup isn't good for your skin and harms it in any way, the animals are the ones that actually get hurt. Animals can't exactly tell us anything because they can't TALK in any of our languages, but I think it's still unfair that just because they can't state their own opinions, they're being used as test subjects. I understand that sometimes, in labs and stuff, test subjects like mice are required for something like a new cure, in order to make sure that it works or that humans won't get ill because of it. But what really makes us better than animals? Sure, we can use cellphones and type and talk, but we're also the ones who are ruining our planet (I'm also sorta an environmentalist. Hahaha). If you really think about it, humans are the ones who are polluting the atmosphere, not animals. My point is that we shouldn't treat animal lives any less important than human lives just because they can't speak, since in the long run, we're actually worse than they are. Journal Entry No. 37 - May 3, 2010 Write about a time you hid from someone, or a time you disguised who you really were. It was one of my favorite games: pretending to be a spy. My younger brother and I would wear big hats to partially cover our faces, and sneak into my older brother's room. We hid under the bed, and in the closet, slowly and carefully, until he finally heard us rustling around. Although most times he heard us as soon as we came into his room, there were those occasional times when my younger brother and I were able to surprise him. Also, sometimes we would follow certain people around. Maybe a woman with suspiciously large sunglasses, or a man in a business suit who looked strangely odd. My younger brother and I hid behind trees and cars until we reached the person's destination. It was a time when I didn't have to worry about anything, when I was carefree. Now, of course, I still play the game at times, but not as much as I used to play in the OLDER days. Journal Entry No. 38 - May 6, 2010 Recall an uplifting experience and write about it. Last Friday, I had to go to Seoul Arts Center to watch a concert for my concert report (Choir class). It was due by Monday, so I was all frustrated and stressed out. My mom couldn't drive me because she was sick, and Seoul Arts Center was around an hour away from my house, so I rode the bus and subway there. It seemed like I would get there at first. The recital was supposed to start at 8 PM, and I left the house at 6. I rode the bus to the subway station and rode the subway all the way to Sadang Station. I then transferred to another line, but at that line, I accidentally went the wrong way. I was supposed to get off and Nambu Terminal, but I got off at Gosok Terminal (both had terminal in the names..) so I had to go back to the subway and ride it to Nambu Terminal. Then, I couldn't find the way to Seoul Arts Center. It seemed really far away from the subway station, and everyone I had asked about it had given me different directions. I finally broke down and began to cry. I was just so frustrated and I didn't know the way. It was already over 8 PM, and I just wanted to go home, but I asked an old granny the way, and she gave me the correct directions. This made me realize that sometimes, (in life) you might get lost and not know which way to go, but there will always be someone to help and guide you through. Also, once I actually got to Seoul Arts Center, I got lost in THERE, and I didn't know the way, but I finally found it and got a free ticket because the lady felt sorry for me. :D Journal Entry No. 39 - May 7, 2010 Freewrite.
These days, I've been playing a game called Peggle. It's an application that my friend sent me, and it's so addicting. There are only 10 balls, so after you use all of them, if there are still red balls left, it's game over. It's really fun to play but it also adds to my procrastination. "Listen listen listen. You girlies be quiet now or I'm gonna have to ask you two to leave." The cab driver said impatiently. Mandy huffed and Candy blew her hair out of her face in anger.
"See? Now we got in trouble because of you." Mandy whispered loudly. Candy sighed angrily and replied to her twin.
"Because of me? It's because of you! You're the one who keeps invading my personal space." Candy folded her arms and turned towards the window of the small, battered up cab.
"Personal space? Stop acting like you're so great at everything because you're just a snobby twit." (haha, twit). Candy's face scrunched up in rage at her twin's words and she began retorting back.
"Ugh, you know what? Whatever. I just wish you would be quiet already."
"Same goes to you, sis." Mandy smirked and began tracing designs on her foggy window. She knew that she'd won the little battle, and a smug smile grew on her face as she drew smiley faces on the tinted glass with her fingers. Candy's face got redder and redder. How come Mandy always won? Why was she always better? In sports, school, and status, Mandy always beat her. She was just so sick of it all!
"You know what? I wish you'd never been born!!" Candy shouted. Mandy began yelling back, both of them oblivious to the impatience of the taxi driver.
"Yeah? Well, I should be saying that. I'm the older one." Mandy spoke back.
Candy's nose flared. This was always Mandy's argument. Just because she was a little older, she thought she could get away with anything. "You're only older by 11 minutes. Big difference."
Mandy grinned. "Yeah, it is a big difference." Candy screamed in frustration, and she pushed her twin sister against the car window. Mandy yelped and pushed Candy back. A pushing competition soon erupted between the two, and they snarled at each other as the taxi driver finally pulled over.
"ALRIGHT SETTLE DOWN YOU TWO! IF YOU DON'T SHUT UP RIGHT NOW I'M KICKING YOU OUT!!!!!!" The taxi driver shouted at the twins, and the two stopped in shame and surprise. They untangled their hands from each others hair, and looked at one another. Candy fingered combed her hair to it's usual neat sleek self.
"Dear, dear sister Candy, your hair looks nice today." Mandy said politely. Candy smiled back.
"Why, thank you, Mandy. Your hair looks nice as well."
Mandy replied. "Yours is nicer, sister."
"No, yours is."
"Please, accept the truth that yours is nicer today."
"NO. I said yours is."
"Look, just say okay! I don't like dragging out lies."
"Okay, okay. WAIT. You mean you're lying?"
Mandy looked down. "Well...I mean, your hair is nice but...uhh..."
"I can't believe you! You're so..ugh!"
"What? Why and I so 'ugh'? And fine, you wanna know the truth? Your hair's all messed up."
The taxi driver groaned. He wasn't getting paid enough for this job. The dwarf population was slowly dwindling. The story begins a few decades ago, when the dwarfs were aplenty. It was a good time for the little men and women, who fared well in their carefully built huts. However, as the humans took over, the dwarfs began to shrink away and hide. These larger humans would threaten them and take the dwarfs' lands away. In fear, the dwarfs slowly packed their bags and took their children to new places, places where the human could not find them. For decades and decades, humans couldn't find the places where the dwarfs were living, and everything was in harmony. But everything came crashing down a few years back, in the fall of 1874 (random year). One small hunting group found the little homes in which the dwarfs dwelt, and destroyed the house. They then took the bricks apart, only to find gold hidden in the cracks. This began the sudden craze for gold, not unlike the California Gold Rush. People everywhere would search wide and far to try their luck at dwarf-finding. Slowly, more and more dwarfs were driven out of their homes, and died without shelter. Now, 26 years later, it has come to the point where the dwarfs may become instinct. Journal Entry No. 43 - May 17, 2010 "Yipes," said the zebra. "I've lost my stripes." "STAY TUNED FOR NEXT WEEK TO FIND OUT WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED TO ZENNY THE ZEBRA. SEE YOU NEXT TIME, KIDS!" Little Joey grinned and clapped his small hands together while Samantha, his older sister, rolled her eyes. "Animal Fun" had to be the most boring show in the history of shows. It was about a bunch of cartoon animals talking and saying things that didn't make sense. Samantha groaned. She wasn't being paid enough for babysitting her baby brother. In fact, she wasn't being paid at all!
"Come on, Joey. Let's go sleep now," Samantha said softly. She led her younger brother up the stair as a sudden creak shook the house. It's just the pipes, Samantha told herself. Samantha went upstairs quickly, holding Joey and running as if her life depended on it. She was about to lay Joey down in his crib when a sudden smell enveloped them both. Joey had thrown up. Samantha wrinkled her nose and got some baby wipes. She wiped Joey's mouth clean and went to her room, just across the hall. Turning on her computer, Samantha immediately got on Skype. Her best friend, Allie, was already on.
"I can't believe my parents are making me babysit," Samantha griped to Allie. She furiously typed and told her friend all the gory details of her babysitting adventure that night. Samantha was tired, but telling someone else of her problems hyped her up.
*DINGDONG* Her parents were home! Samantha turned off her computer quickly and turned off the light. She crawled into bed and closed her eyes, pretending to be asleep. She could hear her parents walking upstairs silently, as to not wake their children up. Samantha could tell when her parents went inside Joey's little nursery to check on him. When her parents came into her room, Samantha slowed down her breathing to make it seem as if she really were sleeping.
"Aw...look at our little angel. They grow up so fast." Her mother said in a whisper. Samantha's father grunted in agreement. "And look at what a good job she did in babysitting Joey! I know I should be relieved, and looking forward to next week, but that's when finals begin! I feel like we have so little time to prepare for the transition ceremony and finals because for our first semester finals, at least we had more time to think and study for them! I don't think any of us had much time to study for finals this semester because we had so many tests and quizzes crammed into our schedules last week, and we were using all of our time studying for those. This week, I also have three quizzes and a lot of last-minute homework from teachers who are desperate to teach us more. Plus, I need to buy a dress for the transition ceremony. Everyone else got theirs' already, so I need to hurry up and get one too! What with all the stress, I can wait for graduation, I really can! Journal Entry No. 46 - May 24, 2010 Reflect on your digital storytelling project.
This project was actually really simple, but took me more time than expected. When I first began the project, I searched for pictures of me in Yellowstone National Park. At the time, I could only find 8 pictures, and I was desperate to find more, but I convinced myself that it would be okay. Then I began working on my storyboard and script. I found it difficult to edit my script down to half a page while double-spaced because I had written a lot more in the first draft of my script. Also, when I actually read the script while recording, I had to fix a lot of sentences that sounded awkward or ran on for too long. However, a few days ago, I came to an abrupt halt when I realized that even after searching all of my family albums, I couldn't find anymore of my trip to Yellowstone National Park. It was difficult finding 12 pictures that were of me in Yellowstone National Park. At that point, it was getting late, and the due date was in two days. I started planning out a new project out of despair and frustration- I planned to start all over again about my trip to Alaska. I finally found a few more pictures of my family and I on that trip, but it was only after an hour of leafing through photo albums. I wouldn't want to do this project again just because I didn't find it that interesting to make OR watch, and I prefer group projects. :/ Journal Entry No. 47 - May 26, 2010 Use all of the following words in a story: plastic bottle, baseball, dirty handkerchief, crumpled note, unhinged door.
The boy picked up the plastic bottle of water and sighed. His name was Charlie, and he was miserable. His team had just lost the Regional Baseball Championships, and they were all worn out. It had been so close, 3-4, but they'd lost. That meant they didn't have a chance to prove their abilities at the State Championships. Charlie wiped his sweat with a dirty handkerchief and exhaled slowly. Charlie felt like crying. He wasn't so sad about not getting to go to the States, but more about the fact that he wasn't able to impress the girl he liked. Her name was Janice, and she was a major baseball fan. Charlie groaned. The fact that his team had lost meant that Janice wouldn't be showing interest to him anymore. Putting his head in his blistered hands in shame, Charlie beat himself up inside at his major mess-up. After all, it'd been his fault that his team had lost. His fault. Charlie drank his water in 8 gulps and got up after minutes of humiliation, and began preparing to go home. All of his team members had already left after the embarrassing match, muttering and cursing under their breaths. Looking for his jacket, Charlie roamed around the field. He knew he'd left it on the bleachers! Where was it? Just then a whistle broke into his train of thought.
"Hey! Charlie!" It was Janice. Charlie began panicking. She was jogging over to him, with her light brown ponytail swinging over and over in a rhythmical pattern. "You left your jacket here, so I kept it for you." Janice handed over Charlie's jacket and smiled. After a quick goodbye, she left.
Charlie smiled at the little exchange. She didn't mention anything about his mortifying mistake in the game, and for that, he was glad. Slipping his arms into the warm, comfortable sleeves of his jacket, Charlie prepared to leave. He got home and opened the unhinged door that led to his shed. It was his private sanctuary, where he could be himself. There were so many memories in this tiny shed.
Charlie put away his jacket neatly and as he did, a crumpled note fell out. In puzzlement, Charlie picked it up and smoothed it out until the little wrinkles were nearly gone. It was a note from Janice. He could tell from the neat loopy handwriting. Charlie, it read. I like you.
RANDOM: Aww isn't that so fairytale like? ^ That story up there!! :D Journal Entry No. 48 - May 28, 2010 Do you agree that if you give respect, you get it? Explain.
I think that it's true in most cases that if you give respect, you get it back. However, this isn't always the case. Most people say that if you just show someone that you respect them, they'll respect you right back, but it's not always as easy as that. Sure, sometimes, you can grown to mutually respect each other. The thing is, I think respect isn't something that you can expect from most people. Even if you show someone respect, they might still look down on you. They might feel like they have the upper hand and use that respect for their own good. My point is that although it's widely said that if you give respect, you get it in return, it's not always that way. Journal Entry No. 49 - June 1, 2010 Write about a task, job or chore you dislike.
I dislike cleaning up my room. Even though I'm past the age when my mom has to tell me to clean up my room, I have to be reminded constantly to pick clothes off the floor and put flyaway papers into a folder. It's not that I don't want my room to be clean. I do. Whenever my room is clean, I feel as if I can work better. The thing is, my room gets back to the way it was before in a matter of two weeks. I have to keep on cleaning and cleaning to get the type of room I want. Another chore I dislike is taking out the trash. It's not that I don't especially like doing it, it's just that I'm lazy. I don't want to have to go all the way down to the first floor and walk for two minutes to throw away trash.
I've noticed that I've gotten a lot more LAZY this year... T__T That's a bad thing. Journal Entry No. 50 - June 2, 2010 Write about someone you would love to see put in jail.
There are a lot of people who I would love to see in jail. I just think that there are so many people in world who are 'bad'. They create all the ruckus and fights, and cause so much grief and death. For example, I would like to see Osama Bin Laden or Kim Jongil in jail. I think a lot of people will say that those who are ruining our planet should be put in jail, but I think there are more deserving people...
It's true that our planet is slowly getting more and more polluted, and that we should all do something about it. It's also true that people who do drastic things to Mother Nature should be in trouble. But jail? I don't think so. Well, maybe, but the first two should get more years in prison.
I think teenagers who drunk drive should be put in jail. Not for life, but maybe for a few days, just so they can be taught a lesson.
I'm not really sure. I mean, if I really think about it, there are so many people who SHOULD be put in jail, but nothing happens to them. I guess that's just the way things work...

My Paragraph★:

Write a paragraph about a girl named Dot, but use no letters with (i, j).

My Poem: Dew
-Inspired by Socrates- :D
Delicate little drops
Marking the day from night
Sitting peacefully on a leaf
But always aware.
Always on the lookout
For those disturbances to come
For the time when they will fall
Off the leaf
Into the ground
Into the Earth.
And from this,
We must learn a lesson.
We are the dewdrops sitting on a leaf,
The humans standing on this Earth.
Never knowing when we will fall,
When we will surrender.
So until then,
We wait.
Peacefully.
We learn to make the past happy-
To stop nagging at ourselves for the things we cannot change.
We learn to await the future,
We learn to accept it.
And in the meanwhile,
We enjoy the present.
Compare and Contrast - Picture of a Leaf and Picture on a Website
http://www.synappedphoto.com/Flowers/LiliesRosesDaisiesPoppies/5518036_5oAfB/1/760052902_VTaHp#760052902_VTaHp
The picture on the website has a thin long leaf, but the PDF picture has a leaf that is big and shaped like a tree. o_o
PictureSenses - Picture on Website

Onions Are Fun (PDF 28) - February 1, 2010
Ideas for Writing: Imagine that you are an onion that is about to be sliced onto a hamburger.

Silly is a middle-aged man who who combs his remaining limp strands of hair into a elaborate swirl over his bald spot, gluing them in place with hair spray and hoping no one will notice.
Interpreting a Picture (PDF 83) - February 3, 2010
What is your interpretation of this photograph?

Today's Prompt: Describe your bedroom the way you want it to be.

Fatima is a very spoiled teenage girl.

Write a paragraph about a cat attacking something, but don't use the words hiss, scratch, or pounce.

Describe what you feel right now using your sense of smell. If you feel frustrated ,what about what your frustration smells like. Use vivid words. Don't skimp on adjectives.
The smell can simply be the cause of your frustration; the sweet, sugary smell that you know you can't get a hold of even if you try.
11 - February 18, 2010
Us the following words in a story: little boy, torn page, market, and cart.
-The End-

Role models. They help us reach our goals and fulfill our dreams. They inspire us and encourage us to try to do our bests. My role model is Kim Yuna. She's my role model because she motivates me to reach my goals and try my best in whatever I can. When I first watched her skate on national television a few years back, I decided that I wanted to be like her. I don't mean that I want to be a skater (I can't skate..hehe) but I wanted to be able to be as determined to be on top as she was. I only hope that one day, I will match her strong will and spirit. :D

Dreams. They take over your mind. They bring back memories. They uncover secrets that were buried deep down. Dreams capture your attention, and only give it back once the sun had risen. Dreams show other worlds, perfect ones and ones you wish to never go back to. Dreams are given to you without your pick; they are in control of the night's restlessness and inability to sleep or the deep slumber that might await you. Dreams can show wishes, and they can show fears. They can make you wish you could go on forever in the perfectness, or desperately want to escape from the nightmare. Dreams are dreams. The colors they come in vary- sometimes they're in color, but other times, they're in black and white. In dreams, you can do things you never would have done before. You can experience things you didn't experience before. Dreams are dreams. They piece together little memories and jumble it all together into a complex new world. Dreams are the gateway to adventure. :D

Write an eight sentence paragraph on a topic of your choice. Make sure that you vary the length of each sentence.
The faded photograph had been sitting in the dark for too long. Left behind by the previous owners, it lay every day and every night on a dusty bookshelf among a clutter of other pictures and documents. It wasn't surprising that the owners hadn't taken it. It showed happiness, and the owners had been feeling so very unhappy for the past few years. It hurt them to look at the photograph, to look back at all the memories and the enjoyable childhoods they had all had. As they grew up, however, everything changed.

What kind of cartoon show might appeal to the over-the-age-of-65 audience? Imagine the show. Then, in 100 words or less, describe the show and its main character.
There is a parallel world called Oldpeopleland in which technology has not yet been 'improved'. The world is made like it was in 'the old days'. It shows a world where teenagers with cellphones or iPods are banned from entering, and people under the age of 60 who don't have arthritis are looked down on. The main character is Great Auntie Mimi, now 62, and her arthritis is getting worse. She decides that the time has come for her to go to Oldpeopleland. So she packs her few essentials and rides a wheelchair to Oldpeopleland. There, she meets a whole bunch of people and befriends a few, and argues a lot with the mean granny down the street.

Write a rhyme paragraph. Each sentence must begin and end with the words that rhyme with each other. An example: Spring is a wonderful thing. Flowers start to sprout with the the help of rain showers.
High above, you can hear a sigh. Doves swoop down from up and above. Tears of a thousand years- sorrow is here to stay for today and tomorrow. Life, sometimes so beautiful, sometimes a sharp knife. Calling for help, but the hero ends up falling. Now it's time to end this paragraph but I don't know how. Hi and goodbye! :D

Write a 150 word profile for a person called "Margaret Mallory" or one of the characters for your short story.
The main character of my story is Kaylee Sonders. She's thirteen years old and she's already forgetting things. It starts out as little bits, like forgetting to do her homework. Then, crucial facts begin disappearing from her mind- she begins to forget her friends, and even her address a few times. She remembers glimpses from a certain day after school... (that part is the key to the story so I'm not going to include it here.) She feels confused from her sudden memory loss, and tries to find the cause with her best friend Chloe. She loves to read and write, and she keeps a diary. Her school is Lakeview Junior High (her city is called Lakeview too). She goes to school everyday and her favorite teacher is Ms. Wotchwit (who's also an important character in this story). She has a sister in high school who she doesn't really get along with. She loves tuna fish sandwiches, but sometimes forgets that she likes them. She's athletic but not the best in her class. :D Other details (physical appearances): She has auburn hair with hazel eyes. She doesn't stand out from a crowd, but if you happen to see her, you can't tear your eyes away. She catches your eye and you can't do anything about it! She will do anything to get her memory back, and one certain person will do anything to keep it from returning....

★Read!!! :D :D :D
★Watch a movie with my younger brother
★Computer
★Sleep
★Go outside just to use my rarely-used umbrella
★Bake cookies
★Play with my dog
★Draw, and make new designs and fonts haha (I'm into the whole making-cards thing o_o)
★Clean my room (when I REALLY have nothing to do)
★Take a nice long bath (although I don't really take baths...hehe)
Dripdrop..dripdrop... It's raining again. I stare out the window in misery- I was hoping to go to a mall this afternoon. I sigh and look at my umbrella. Although I never really like going out in the rain, I enjoy just holding my umbrella. It's a clear umbrella, with no patterns or color, but that's what I like so much about it.

Please write for 3 minutes on this cliche “ice running through her veins”

Gosh knows I need it!"

Living forever, is it really a good thing?

Reflect on the process of writing a short story.

A person's choice of a dog is said to express something about his or her personality.

Write about a time when you and a friend, sibling, or parent bonded.

The Climb lyrics
Songwriters: Alexander, J; Mabe, J;I can almost see it
That dream I am dreaming
But there's a voice inside my head saying
"You'll never reach it"
Every step I'm taking
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking
But I gotta keep trying
Gotta keep my head held high
There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be a uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb
© HOPELESS ROSE MUSIC; VISTAVILLE MUSIC;

Reflect on the group work portion of your commercial project. How did you measure up?

Pick a character from a day time soap opera.
'I'm never going back there again!'

You can tell a lot about a person by what he or she says.
Is there a cause you care about a lot?

Write about a time you hid from someone, or a time you disguised who you really were.

Recall an uplifting experience and write about it.

These days, I've been playing a game called Peggle. It's an application that my friend sent me, and it's so addicting. T_T There are dozens of red and blue dots, and with a cannon, you need to shoot at the red dots with the metal balls that come out of the cannon. There are only 10 balls, so after you use all of them, if there are still red balls left, it's game over. It's really fun to play but it also adds to my procrastination. Maybe I should never have started playing this game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take two people who dislike each other and stick them in the backseat of a cab. What happens?

There are only three words in the English dictionary that start with 'dw': dwell, dwindle, and dwarf. Write a paragraph that incorporates all three of these 'dw' words.

"Yipes," said the zebra. "I've lost my stripes." Continue the paragraph, using as many words as you possibly can that rhyme with 'yipes'.
"Yipes," said the zebra. "I've lost my stripes." Just then, another voice boomed on the television screen.
"STAY TUNED FOR NEXT WEEK TO FIND OUT WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED TO ZENNY THE ZEBRA.
We should make her do it again tomorrow."

It's almost the end of the school year. In just 3 weeks, it's going to be summer vacation, and all of us eighth graders will have graduated from middle school after three long years.

Reflect on your digital storytelling project.

Use all of the following words in a story: plastic bottle, baseball, dirty handkerchief, crumpled note, unhinged door.

Do you agree that if you give respect, you get it?

Write about a task, job or chore you dislike.

Write about someone you would love to see put in jail.
