Also, since we can't use elevators, there are no choices but to go up all those stairs with a half dead face. Q. Write a paragraph about a girl named Dot, but use no letters with (i,j)
There was a young woman named Dot, who hated bugs. Whenever she saw even a small ant crawling under her bed, she
freaked out and ran away. One day, when she started to have fun, she saw an enormous hornet nest hung front of a transparent door. Forgetting the fact that the door was transparent, she threw rigid blocks toward the door. As a result, the door
was shattered, and a bunch of hornets burst to her house.

Free write : In the quotation, what does Frederick Douglass mean? (i wrote the question...)
quote : "God helps those that help themselves"
In Frederick Douglass’s speech “Man-Made Men”, “God helps those that help themselves” he indicates the reader the importance of faithfulness. According to this quote, God will never going to come and aid of those who refuse to make an effort. One should not just relying on other people for help; one should exert oneself if he/she wants to succeed. For instance, if one wants to grow crop and do nothing but sleeping, then there will be devastating consequences. Since one turned down to try, there will be no crops growing. Overall, if one believes that making a hard effort in order to achieve goals and success, one will be successful.

Q. Close your eyes briefly. Think of one object that's in the room and focus on it without opening your eyes, recall as much detail as you can about it. After three minutes or so, open your eyes and write about that object without looking at it. (This exercise was done in class and timed.)
The object that I observed without opening my eyes was a blue, train shaped pencil sharpener. It was in the back of the room alone with nothing beside it. It had two huge wheels attached facing each other and it was totally motionless. Some parts were colored in light blue but majority of the sharpener was colored with blue. Lastly, it had a small hole penetrated on the middle of the front part of the train, where pencils can go through.

>>In the quotation above, what do you think Socrates means?
"Man’s life is like a drop of dew on a leaf.”
I think Socrates means tat a person's life is like fresh but tiny drops of water. Since dew represents the tiny drops of water and even though the drops are small, people should be always thankful to everything and try their best. I think Socrates wanted to say that since our life is short, one should remind the importance of life and do one's best in order to achieve something.
teachers answer : I think that Socrates is referring to men collectively. If we think about the history of all of mankind, the entire human race, then a man or a woman's life is in fact "like a single drop of water." Small indeed compared to the whole of the rest of the world.

Difference between Ibo culture vs. Our culture
In Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, there are numerous things to compare and contrast between their culture and our culture. The novel is set in the mid to late 1800s in Nigeria. During mid to late 1800s, the Christian missionaries came into Nigeria to convert the native tribes. The novel takes place in the Ibo, the village of Umofia. Ibo village people are profoundly religious. Therefore, they are polytheistic people and have a very unique daily life. Unlike these people, in our culture, government and court system decides majority of the caes, and we are monotheistic. Among numerous differences of Ibo village and my culture, major differences are based on laws. In this novel, Oracle makes a decision and even determines someone’s death, yet in our daily lives, government and court systems are the major set up in order to work out cases. For example, when Okonkwo accidentally kills a clansman’s son, he was exiled from his town for seven years. However, in my culture, if there is any court cases like this, then he/she will be jailed or pay a fine. Another distinct characteristics in Ibo culture is that they polytheistic people. They worship many gods such as, Chukwu; the supreme god, earth god, etc. In real Ibo village they are three levels of divine being: the highest supreme god and two other lesser gods called, Umagbara and Ndi Ichie; the spirit of dead people. Nonetheless, we believe in monotheism, which is a belief that there is only one God. Moreover, Ibo culture people also believe in reincarnation, which means the rebirth of a soul in a new body. They are capable of seeing death as a temporary phase between their real life and spirit world. To be more specific, when someone dies, he/she will start a new way of life in the spirit world. In this world, this person will be reborn as a new person and this cycle will continue.

At first when I was writing my short story, I couldn't think of what to write about. I felt like my brain wasn't functioning and I thought of the character sheet. In my opinion, the most difficult part while writing a short story of your own is the beginning and how to catch the reader's attention. When I started off my story with the character explanation, it looked informal. I thought that other student's stories will start off in mystery circumstances. However, I decided to start off by giving details for setting, which was not a perfect way to start my story. He vowed that he will never hesitate next time when he sees a pig. After investigating through the island, the three boys finally returned to beach where the group of boys were waiting for them.
When the boys returned to the beach, Ralph summoned the boys for another meeting on the beach. He announced that there are no sign of civilization in this island and no adults. Therefore, they had to organize and look for things by themselves. As the leader of the boys, he also stated that the conch shell will be used to determine which boy has the right to speak. During that time, Piggy was worried that there is no one, who knew that they have crashed on the island. The entire boys became silent and frightened.
While they were thinking about the possiblity of getting rescued. Math Competition!!!!
The day had arrived. The moment to show off what we’ve been doing for many weeks, days, and hours had finally arrived. On Saturday, May 1st, SIS hosted a Math Competition. Our two math teachers showed their generosity by coming with us. When we got there, the hallway was jammed with students from different schools. We planned to work on numerous puzzles games, take individual tests, and competition between different international schools. I first solved variety of question individually. There were some Algebra II related problems. Even though it was a tough experience, I have gained and learned a lot of knowledge. Following the first part of the competition, we were put into teams and was told to solve several puzzle games. Rubix cubes, Rubix snake, pentamino, and Phit were some of the many puzzles. This was my favorite part of the competition. My ability and knowledge about team work has risen. I thank all my group members for their effort and hard work. Finally, each school was given 30 questions and we had to solve it in given amount of time. All the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders worked on problems together. By doing this, I think we cooperated very well. Even though this competition was my first trial, I had a lot of fun and became familiar with this kind of competition.

Therefore, I consider yearbooks as worth saving and a convenient source.

This project helped me to remember all the major events I went through in 8th grade. A task, job or chore I dislike is ... working on projects and doing my homework. I really dislike doing my homework everyday. I wish there's homework every other day. quote : "God helps those that help themselves"

Lastly, it had a small hole penetrated on the middle of the front part of the train, where pencils can go through.

Free write --> after reading a book called, Things Fall Apart

Q. Reflect on the process of writing a short story. What did you enjoy about it? What was difficult? How would you approach it differently if you did it again?
At first when I was writing my short story, I couldn't think of what to write about. I felt like my brain wasn't functioning and I thought of the character sheet. Even though I wrote down two main characters and their personalities, I had no idea how to start my story. Maybe because I don't really have experiences writing my own story. Since this is my first time writing a story in creative writing class, I determined to be simple and make the reader easy to understand. The most enjoyable part while writing my story was when it came to the climax. I didn't know that I was actuallyJournal Entry #26
A person's choice of a dog is said to express something about his or her personality. Choose five individuals whose names are well-known internationally. What kind of dog would you choose for each. Why?
2NE1 CL --> I would choose a golden retriever that is fashionable, wearing stylish clothes, Since she is outgoing and energetic, stylish dog will fit to er.
Kim Yuna --> I would choose a chiwawa for her because the big, sparkling eyes of the dog will ease her pain for practicing so long. Since she is a figure skater, white and shinny ones will fit her too.
Lady Gaga --> I would choose a small dog like maltiz? that she can do make up on it and make the dog fashionable.
Obama --> I would choose German shepherd for him to look cool? since he's the president.
Rain(singer)--> I would choose a bull dog for him because I think he will like it to see all those wrinkles in its face.(in my opinion^^;)

OMG..ㅠㅠ I got caught riding the ELEVATOR!
Me, Annie, Daniella, and Rachel went down to cafeteria to get some snacks as soon as we dressed up in gym clothes. Since we couldn't stand the hunger we felt, we ran as fast as we could. After eating some dumpling, me and Annie decided to take the elevator, just because we thought it would be way faster and most importantly, we thought we were late. And.. OMG. The elevator stopped at 3rd floor and Mr. Greenwood came in. Even though he was surprised that we were in the elevator, we didn't think that he was going to punish us. Unfortunately, the elevator stopped again at 5th floor, and MR. BRAY came in. Me and Annie's face became pale and he began to read down the policy thing posted on the wall of the elevator. We knew that this was going to be a detention but luckily, we just ended up doing 20 suicide running. Ahh.. my legs still hurt, but I think it was way better to run 20 suicide than getting one after school detention. Next time, I will NEVER ride the stupid elevator EVER AGAIN!!!

☀☁ Write about a moment when you and another person(sibling, friend, parent, etc) bonded
My brother and I bonded a lot when we were young when we went to grandma's house because it was her birthday. There were my cousins at the house and we all waited for other left people to come. Since most of my cousins are younger than me, I had to pay more attention over them as I usually did. Even though I wanted to spend more time with my elder brother, I had to spend the majority of time with my cousins because my mom said so.

Writing a Summary of first two chapters after reading Lord of the Flies
While the tree boys were exploring the island, they found a wild pig, which was caught in a tangle of vines. Among the three boys, Jack, who was considered as the newly appointed hunter, drew his knife and stepped in to kill it. Unfortunately, he hesitates and missed the pig.
Ralph thought of a plan to build a huge fire on top of the island;s central mountain, so that any passing ships or planes might recognize it and know that there are people stuck in the island for help. When they were working on the fire, boys were getting lazy. Piggy became angry and declared that the boys had to act more proficiently if they want to get off the island, but his words carried a little weight. Jack volunteered his group of hunters to be responsible for keeping the signal fire going.Journal Entry #31☀

Reflect on the group work portion of your commercial project. How did you measure up? Do you believe that you contributed to the group as much as others? What was your role? Did you learn anything new about yourself and how you work in groups during this project?
When we first started our project at school, Clara was sick so only Christine, Chanel, and I worked on the planning part. After when we met at Chanel's house on Saturday we began to make materials we need for our commercial. When I came to her house right after the jamboree, everyone was here. When I began to make coca cola sign, I thought that we were able to end at 4:00 since I came at 12:00, but we began to take the video at 3:00. Unfortunately my mom was picking me up at 4:00 I had no choice but to leave in the middle.
-We didn't divide our task but we worked together while taking the video and making materials.
-Clara did most of the work while putting translation? and music.

You can tell a lot about a person by what he or she says. Here are some things Grandma Dorothy always says:
"You can never be to dressed up,"
"A woman should never ask a man to dance."
"He is quite a snappy dresser"
- based on these sentences, imagine what kind of person Grandma Dorothy is. Write a paragraph describing he. Feel free to use an or all of her quotations
Grandma Dorothy is a very old fashioned person. She just loves to dress up in attractive and alluring looking clothes. She believes that a man should always be in charge of things. Also, she thinks women shouldn't work and rely on men. Even though she is pretty strict in rules, I think its not that bad.

Is there a cause you care about a lot? How far would you go to stand up for what you believe?
-I think North and South Korea shouldn't try to kill each other even though we both despise each other. I would stand up for South Korea. Just because we don't like each other doesn't mean that North Korea can bomb our Korean Navy secretly and pretend as if they didn't do it. North Korea bombed our navy with the Bubble jet bomb thing and half of the Korean military personnels who were in the ship, died. I think this issue could have been solved by having a negotiation earlier. Then it won't have caused this much problem.

2. pencil cases
3. family
4. favorite singer posters
5. mac book
6. ipod
7. music files
8. converse shoes
9. pencils
10. yearbooks
Among these, yearbooks are worth saving because when I go up to ninth grade I would like to know the events that occurred in my previous years in KIS. And especially if I have all three yearbooks when I was in middle school, it will be a good source to find out what had happened in my yearly years in middle school. Therefore, I consider yearbooks as worth saving and a convenient source.

Write a paragraph that uses all these words.
There lived three dwarfs still dwell in a cave. From a long time ago, their numbers slowly diminished and now, there are only three left. I only know the fact that they live there, so I don't really know much about how they find food, what they look like, what kind of food they eat. - Even though I didn't find this project hard but since I had to hand in my project the day right after coming back from Maldives, it was a hard task for me. Although I had a busy time reminding myself to put my project into ms.mccord's drop box, I had a fun time taking the pictures or collecting the pictures i took. This project helped me to remember all the major events I went through in 8th grade. Especially there were some events that I totally forgot about, but by doing this project, I was able to remind beautiful memories I had in 8th grade.

Then, I shouted, "I gotta watch the baseball game!" I ran out the unhinged door so quickly that I forgot to throw away plastic bottles my mom told me.
IDEAS FOR WRITING
1. Do you agree that if you give respect, you get it? Explain
2. Of all the people you know, who is the person you respect most of all? Why? What has the person done to earn your respect?
3. What actions do you take to earn the respect of others?
..Among these choose one and write about it
1. I totally agree that if I give respect to others, I will get it back because of the following reasons. Respect is a feeling of deep admiration for someone
or something by their abilities. Even though I don't feel like giving respect to others, I still do give them because I know that its going to come back.
Who will want to ignore person who gave respect to them? I won't. So when I see people who gave me respect, I always try to help them or ask
if they need any help. If its a request that don't require help, then I always think to myself to help them next time.

Write about a task, job or chore you dislike.
A task, job or chore I dislike is ... working on projects and doing my homework. I really dislike doing my homework everyday. I wish there's homework every other day. Sometimes teachers assign us really easy homework, but most of the times, its hard when it goes to projects. For example, if we have a group project, we need to check the schedule and meet. It's just...complicated and hard for me. I think homework is something that no one prefers to do..(except the nerds..^^)

The theme was wildlife in nature and I am glad that I chose this topic because I really wanted to practice writing poems and this was a great chance for me to practice. I was able to have a study hall at the end of the class because ms. mccord gave us a lot of class times to work on this final project.
