Journal Entry 1 : Describe Ulysses-what does he look like and act like? Try to be specific.
Ulysses was a great hero, he was loyal to home and always helped and saved his men. He was helpful and looking out for his mens on ship, I think he was brave and a smart man. Ulysses thought before his actions and was careful with his decisions he made, I would describe Ulysses both strong physically and mentally. Morpheus described Ulysses as a hero and also described his appearance, red hair with sunken eyes and a beard. He’s neither a mean nor a violent person, even though there was some things he did during the war that was bad, the more important thing was he was a hero, one of the leaders in the Trojan War. He was intelligent and a great leader.
Journal Entry 2 : Why did Ulysses' men betray him and open the bag of winds from Aeolus? What happened to those men?
Ulysses’ men betrayed him and opened the bag of winds from Aeolus because they were so curious about what was in the bag and thought it was treasure. They were too tempted and opened the bag while Ulysses’ was sleeping. When they opened the bag, the wind blew so hard, hard enough that it blew the 2mens above ground. The masts snapped, strong wind pulled the ship all the way back to where they landed, Aeolus. There, when Ulysses’ arrived he begged Aeolus for another bag of wind, and promised him he would never let anything like that happen again. But Aeolus couldn’t, he said no one can help him which the gods detest, the gods hate him. Therefore, heartbroken Ulysses’ tried to hide his feelings from the men and went back onboard as they rowed again back to the other end of the sea to Ithaca.
Journal Entry 3 : What would it be like to live on Cannibal Beach? What problems would it create to have a quicker of day and night. How do you think this kept Ulysses from discovering what the trees were?
I wouldn't want to live on Cannibal beach because since the night and the day goes really fast, my day would be really short, before I know it my day will be over ready to start another day, you would get less sleep and I would be tired. It would cause problems because you wouldn't be able to see things like Ulysses couldn't see the giant. There would be a hard time seeing what was what. Ulysses didn't know the trees were giants because of the day and night he couldn't see very well, then he discovered that the trees were ogres and find out that 2 of his mens were swallowed down the Ogres gullet. If you couldn't see what was what then it was be scary, knowing that while your walking during the night there could be a Ogre walking behind you. You would never know what could happen on Cannibal Beach.
Journal Entry #4 Ulysses - In Chap. 9,The Wandering Rocks, Ulysses has to decide
what to do for himself. All of the advice that he has been given turns out to be useless.
What does he decide to do? Have you ever been in a situation that required you to make an important decision on you own? How did you decide what to do?
Ulysses had no choice but to ignore what the ghosts had told him and found the advices all useless, so he sails his boat north by northwest to the Isle of the Sun. Ulysses also thinks that the ghosts were just saying things to him to make him feel scared which is what ghosts usually tend to do. Once I was in a situation when my teacher gave me a special part to do during the opening of a school concert with my friends, at first I wasn't sure what to do since it was something new to me but then eventually I decided to do it and thought it would be fun.
Journal Entry #5Ulysses has gone through much physical and mental hardship. Through all of this he has been determined to return to Itacha. What people and/or places in your life would you be willing to fight as hard as Ulysses to get to/see.
Since I was little, I have always wanted to go traveling all around the world. I haven't got a chance yet to do much traveling since I'm still young, but if I ever get a chance I will try my best. I've especially really wanted to go to Europe especially Paris and Italy :). This opportunity won't come easily, which is why I'll keep studying hard, and trying my best. It's something I've always wanted to do, and if that opportunity comes by, I'm not going to just let it pass away. I hope to make many fantastic memories that I will cherish forever. =)'
