Father Quinel reveals that Asta’s son is a wolf’s head, which means that anyone is allowed to kill him, and Asta’s son was named Crispin when he was babtized, and tells him that his mother was able to read and write. Also tells him about Lord Furnival that he is very ill, so soon he is going to die. Father Quinel promises to tell Asta’s son about his father.

Crispin encounters two dead men shortly after fleeing the village. How does each affect him?
After he sees Father Quinel dead, he felt that God has abandoned him and was very terrified. He tries to find out why Father Quinel had died, and predicts that it was related to his mother and himself. As he thought more and more, he is doubtful about Father Quinel's actions and what he was going to tell him.
