Welcome! Students you have been selected to be in this course, creative writing, because you have shown an interest in and aptitude for writing. I hope you will find this course interesting and challenging.
Please remember that throughout the semester you are responsible for three journal entries a week. You will almost always have one assigned at the beginning of class. Any others are free writes.
We begin our focus in creative writing this semester on description. Our final project will be to write a descriptive essay. To get you thinking about the many ways you use imagery in descriptive writing, you have three short writing projects today.
On Tuesday, March 2, 2010. We will set up a gallery in our classroom to view your art inspired poems. Please have your poems in presentation mode upon arrival to class. It will take about 15 minutes to set up the gallery and then we all look at each other's work.
The first draft of your short story is due on Thurs. Mar. 18, 2010 at the beginning of class please be sure to print it out. It must be a minimum of five pages typed (double-spaced). It should be no longer than seven pages.
Choose a photo from the keynote. Write a story which includes what happened before the photo was taken, during the time the photo was taken and after the photo was taken. Your story and photo are due printed out next class period. Your story should not be over one double spaced. Due - Monday May 3, 2010.
Journal Entries 31- 39 are due Fri., May 7 at 5:00 p.m. All must be posted to the wiki.
Second drafts for memoir are due printed out at the beginning of class on Tues. May 11.
When you complete your second draft use wordle to create a graphic of major areas that need improvement and that you have done well on. Use the 6+1 language that has been pointed out to you on the rubric. Save the graphic and post it to the wiki. http://www.wordle.net/
