Prompt #1

One hot summer day, Dot went to ‘GS 25’ to get a snack. She chose a chocolate bar and took out her money to pay. There was a hundred dollars! The counter man was also shocked because a 8-year-old was holding a hundred dollars.

While Dot gave him the money, she held on to her chocolate bar. The counterman gave her the money back but she found out that he only gave her $50. Dot ran back to the store and started to yell to the counterman, “ You bad counterman! You only gave me $50!” The counterman yelled back, “ You don’t even know how to calculate money!

As you can see, Dot was a genius in math. She has been taking 12 grade math while she was in 3rd grade. “ Do you sell a chocolate bar for $50?! It’s $1.50!! You are supposed to give me $98.50 back!! If you don’t return my money, I’ll call the cops!!” So Dot got her money and left the shop. She made a deal to never go there from now on.

Prompt #9

Topic: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. In the morning, students need lots of protein in order to start up their brains and become a stronger thinker. If students did not eat breakfast, they wouldn’t be energetic so they can’t.

Breakfast is the one thing that starts your brain and your whole body. Just imagine having P.E. in the morning and not eating breakfast! You’d faint! Without it, people would starve which would lead to... having no concentration in school and in anything that you are doing.

Even though breakfast isn’t good or tasty, a lot of times, I feel that people should always eat breakfast in the morning in order to do anything! Breakfast might be very good for some people because at night, you were really hungry and in the morning, you’re eating again so it might be very tasty. For these situations, eat a lot to get more energy!

Prompt #10

Topic: Less homework, more school time equals success for the future.

In my opinion, I think that schools give too much homework and have less time teaching in school! Teachers are always giving quizess and tests but they sometimes don't teach all the information that students need to learn because they don't have enough time.Schools should have less homework but extend the school time. This idea can lead to success!

If schools were to follow this rule, students could learn more and extend their brain capacity because since there isles homework but more time in school, they won't have to go to academies. Teachers can teach much better having more time to teach the children.

Students in Korea go to academies and have tutors because they don't know what teachers are talking about and since they go so fast in learning. In order for the students to know better, parents spend their money on tutors to get their child smarter. If school taught better, parents wouldn't have to spend money and students would have less stress.

Then, when I got to English, I turned opened my computer, pressed the on button and waited for it to turn on. I waited and waited for about 10 minutes but the screen was just black. I knew it wasn't working, again.

Annoyance smells like your older sister telling you what to do 24/7. It's drawn with scribbles all over it and just unhappy. It smells very nasty and disgusting. Every time you smell it, you don't want any more! Annoyance has a irritating smell that is stuffy to breathe in and/or out.

The repulsive smell and the unpalatable taste is just not the best for your stomach. You squint yorur nose and cover it. You would also make your hand like a fan and try to get the smell away but, once it gets to you, it'll be very hard to get off!

Wait for winter, staying indoors all day, gaining weight.
Bye summer, I might even cry.

Prompt #18

: Favorite vacation
MY family loves going on vacations and we always do every school break. The best vacation that I ever had was going to LA, Vegas, and San Francisco all on one trip. The best place I liked the most was Vegas because all of the flickering lights and the unique buildings.

LA was very modern but some parts were very messy and dirty. Trash was on the streets but it was the BEST place for shopping. Since my family loves shopping too, we always buy all the things we need and bring it back home. San Fransico was on the other hand, very cultural with flowers and old buildings that had tons of colors on it. We went up the huge hill and also got on the old train that goes up and down the hill. Since it didn't have shopping malls, we shopped for small gifts.

Vegas is the best place for a family vacation. There are roller coasters, shows, loud music, unique hotels and much more. In Vegas, there are many hotels that copy other countries famous buildings such as the pyramid in Egypt and make it into a hotel. Since the pyramid is a triangle, the elevator goes up with a slant. There is also the Statue of liberty in the middle of Vegas but in a smaller version. Also, roller coasters and amusement parks are INSIDE the hotels! It was the best vacation I have ever gone to.

Prompt #19

: Use this metaphor to spark a poem: a chest of childhood.

A chest of childhood holds...
the memories of the first day your training wheels got off of your bicycle,
the old, torn-up doll from your grandfather,
the silly drawings you use to draw about fashion and movies,
the videos of Barnie and Teletubbies,
the picture of your first day of kindergarden, when you're grasping onto your mothers skirt crying, "Don't go!",
the rubber duck from when you had your first shower,
the blanket your parents gave,
and lastly...
the tiny miniature shoes that you always ask a question about, "I can never imagine my feet being this small.".

THE FLOWER CARRIER(1935)- Diego Rivera

external image moz-screenshot.pngflower_carrier.jpg

The mix of pink and purple flowers in the basket seems to overload.
A huge basket carrying all of the flowers, makes work harder for the flower carrier.
Only having a yellow scarf to tie around his back for carrying the flowers,
He brings the flowers back to the village.

His wife helps him and feels hurt,
because of how everyday, her husband has to hold the heavy basket full of flowers.
He strolls down the block,
thinking optimistically.

His tanned skin is burned from the sun
and he is skinny as a toothpick
Determined he is,
full of smiles even though every inch of his body hurts.
Doing his work,
he is the flower carrier.

Prompt #20

: No trip to China:(

All the 7th graders in KIS were so excited that we were going to China as out overnight trip but when it got cancelled, everyone was complaining, angry, and their faces were as red as an apple. Everyone was waiting for the moment that we get on the plane and go on the wall of China, visit new places, and eat new menus.

I think that now 7th graders are the most unlucky because when we were in 1,2,3,4th grade, the 5th graders ALWAYS went to America to have space camp but when we became 5th graders, there was no more space camp. Everyone complained. 2 years ago, the 6th graders got to go to JEJU and the next year, the 6th graders didn't get to go on the plane but we went to a mountain. And this year, we were suppose to go to CHINA but since it got cancelled, we are not going anywere! This year the 6th graders get to go to JEJU again but the 7th graders get to go no where.

The school said that 7th graders are not going anywhere this year but I think that they should think this over again because all these years, 7th graders have been very unlucky and stressed. School should find another place for the 7th graders to go. I feel that it is very unfair that the 6th and 8th graders get to go abroad and the 7th graders are suck in school.

Prompt #21

: Write a paragraph incorporating at least ten onomatopoetic words. Onomatopoetic words are words that sound like what they mean.

"Burp!" After drinking the coke, Bob burped so loud that the next door could hear it. "Ah hahahahaha!!!!!!" All of Bob's friends started laughing at him and couldn't stop. Then suddenly there was a sound, "Drip drop, Drip drop" When Bob looked down, he saw the coke spreading across his mother's favorite rug. Bob yelled and went to get paper towels. " SCRUB SCRUB SCRUB". He scrubed against the rug as hard as he could but couldn't get the stain off. After an hour of scrubbing, the rug got cleaned. The 6 friends were talking and having fun when a bee came into the house. " BUZZZZZ BUzzzzzzzzzz". Bob and his friends started yelling but.... "Tok Tick Plop" the coke fell again. Bob was so angry and got the paper towel again. Scrubing for one hour again, he got the stain off. "Ding dong". The house bell rang, Bob answering, "Who is it?!". Since Bob was running to the door, he tripped over his little brother's toy train. "Bang!Crash!" The noise made. Bob scraped his knee but didn't care. He opened the door, seeing that there was a delivery for him. He opened the box to see, " Boiiinnnggg" there was a toy that jumped out of the box and started dancing. Bob was so shocked at first that he threw it onto the ground. But then, there was a note that said, " Dear Bob, this is a gift from your admirer. I hope you like it!" As you can see, he didn't like it at all. "It's way to childish!" He threw the gift away." Slosh, Boom!" It fell down the trash. He suddnely felt bad so he took it back out and insead of trashing it, he gave it to his brother.

Prompt #22

:Waking up late during school days. Sleeping little is very

For students, waking up early is very exhausting. The night before, the student might of studied for a test or been doing their homework, or PLAYING GAMES. The older you get, the harder it is to wake up from your cozy sleep because there will be more homework, harder tests, and there is just more to study. I think that sleeping late is very unhealthy for the body because it tires the body and you need to have more energy to think and act.

In America and Canada, since there are barely any acadamies and tutors, students usually sleep earlier than Asian students. Koreans come back from acadamies sometimes at 1:00am! They want to study more for tests and quizzes by sleeping less and putting more time into studying. Gaining more sleep is a better idea to be ready for the test the next day.

I encourage Korea and all parts of the world to make less academies and give less homework at school so that the students' health would be strong and healthy. Students should sleep at least 7~8 hours a day but these days, they are only sleeping at about 3,4,5 hours!

Prompt #23

:They say opposites attract. Use at least five pairs of opposites in a paragraph about some kind of transportation.
Ex) weak/strong
loud/ quiet
high/ low

In the subway, there are all different types of people. Tall people, small people or people who are just regular. Most people are very quiet and shy on the subway, not wanting to have any contact with others but my friends are very loud and want attention from others. The most thing that annoys me the most is when someone is very rude and squishes you to the other side of the train. Others are very nice, lending you their seat! When the train stops and starts going again, I'm always balanced so I never fall but my sister is always texting on her phone so she never pays attention to when the train stops or starts going. Lastly, people just stare way too much! They don't know what privacy means! I know how others feel so I look away or just look down at the ground.

: Chris walks into a room. By describing only the reactions of the others in the room, lets is know something about him.

Everyone in the class was having fun, just before the bell rang. Then, after the bell, the students sat in their seat and started to whisper, " Oh no, Chris is going to come any second!". Then, a second later, Chris showed up in his baggy pants, ear and nose piercings, a ripped t-shirt and clinging jewelry. The class had been as quiet as a mouse since the very second of when Chris put his foot upon the classroom floor. No one was able to stand up for themselves and tell Chris to back off and stop bullying others. Chris got enraged when he saw Elliot sitting in his seat so Chris picked him up from the ground and yelled, "If you're in my seat one more time, I'll punch you really hard!" Then when Chris got in his seat, he could see that Helen and David was staring at him. Chris wailed, " What are you looking at, losers?!" In a flash, Helen and David swiftly turned back and started shaking with fear. Finally, Mr. Ross came into the class and everyone knew that Chris couldn't do anything to them. Everyone was relieved.

Prompt #27

: Sharing Lockers

In KIS, students all have their individual lockers, right? I have one but I have a complaint. My friend, Sarah shares lockers with me. I tell her to use her own locker but doesn't listen to me. I put lots f things in my locker but if I add also her things in my locker, then my locker gets filled up and all my stuff gets ruined.

Sharing lockers have good reasons but mostly, they are bad. The good reasons are, you can be closer to your friends. And also, when you go to your locker, you don't have to go alone. The bad reasons are, bags and papers get ruined and also the bags that have your concert clothes gets messed up. Also, it is harder to get your goods from your locker because it is filled over other bags and papers.

I think that if you have a very little amount of objects to carry around, sharing a locker is good but with 2 people that both have tons of bags and objects, I know that the locker will someday burst open and you will regret sharing a locker with your friends!

Prompt #28

: Write from the point of view of a freshly scrubbed floor.

Maria, the janitor scrubbed me today. I was a dirty, stepped on floor the last hour but now, I'm clean as new. With 1000 students stepping on me, the floor, I had gum on me, food, drinks, graded papers, quizzes, homework, a pair of earrings, a lunch box, and puke. Maria does a great job scrubbing all parts of me except for under the lockers, where it is impossible to reach! Its were it tickles the most.

I laugh whenever Maria gets to the second floor and the basement, where my stomach and my feet are. I cant help it when she tickles me! Even though I have to hold in the trouble, it is worth it when I'm all sparkly and clean. My brother, G-building is the newest born in my family. He is very big for a baby his own age!

I get scrubbed after all school days, just like students take a shower everyday!(I hope) I don't want dirty feet running all over my new, sparkly floor! Ew, someone just spilt orange juice on my head and just left it! Now I have to wait for 3 more hours in this disgusting juice until Maria cleans it up for me!

Prompt #29

: Some say you can tell a lot about a person by the vehicle he or she drives. Picture a car. (or is it a truck? or a SUV?)In your mind, rummage though this car. Check it out from every angle.Descrube the car and the man or woman who goes with it.

A woman gets out of a shiny, brand-new Ferrari in Prada shoes, Louis Vuitton bag, and Gucci pants. She captures everyones attention with her Dior sunglasses, having diamonds stuck on them. Everyone has their mouth full- opened.

This Ferrari goes perfectly for her look and acts. It wouldn't be the same if a woman with baggy pants, a gym hoodie and worn out shoes goes into a sparkly, amazing new Ferrari. It's just something that everyone wouldn't expect. If a old, jammed Honda Accord would park in the parking lot, we would think differently. We wouldn't expect a woman with prada shoes, Louis Vitton bag and Gucci pants to come out of that junk car.

Even though people judge people by their cars and appearences, I think that it is very inferior to do this. People still might have a garbage truck but still have a completely different look. People should think over again and think about how people might save money but be very rich and not want to spend that money on appearances or cars.

Prompt #30

: International schools compared to korean schools

There are many international schools in Korea such as SIS, KIS,SFS,KENT,SAIS,GSIS,SAMS and much more. They all are very competitive in sports and education. In my opinion, I think that KIS is the best. (Of course, because it is my school.)

International schools are very different in many from korean public schools. First of all, international schools do not wear uniforms. Korean schools are very strict in what students wear and their appearance. All middle and high schoolers have to cut their hair at shoulder length and cannot have skirts that go under your knee. Although this is a strict rule, some students disobey the school rules.

International schools are based on American standards and culture so students are most adapted to those standards. The education is different and the teaching style is very different too. In my opinion, I think that international schools give out less stress to students than in Korean schools.

Prompt # 31

: Winter coming up
These days, the weather is getting colder and the summer clothes are going up, back into the box. I think that this year, winter came faster than other years in my life. Families are getting ready for winter and taking out parkas and thick pants.

If you think winter, you think of snow, and if you think of christmas. Christmas is a special holiday that all families enjoy. Presents and house decorations are the fun parts. Winter can be freezing especially in the north regions.

Children and adults should dress warmly in order to not get a cold because these days, the flu can be very bad to get. People should try to keep warm and be careful not to get the flu.

Prompt #32

: Macbook care

I have tons of friends that dropped their macbooks and had to repair them with paying tons of money. Students should be careful and take great care on their macbook in order to not lose and drop their macs.

Since KIS has a requirement of middle and high schoolers studying with macs, students should be extra careful with handleing their computers. If students cannot take care of their macbooks, then they should move to a school that does require a computer.

There are many good facts of having a mac such as building to be independent and careful with important objects but I think that computers should be held around by older students that are responsible of handleing a computer.

Prompt #33

: Reflect on the process of writing a short story. What did you learn from the process? If you had the assignment again how would you approach it?

The process of writing a short story taught me many things. I first learned that there are many mistakes and ideas to fix during writing a story and takes a lot of effort and time. Even though it is a short story, time is a great impact on it.

Managing time on the story is important because your ideas change all the time. If I had the assignment again, I would brainstorm my ideas, characters and settings and write the rough draft. I would peer edit it and edit my paper about 3 times and write my final draft.

Time and brainstorming is the two main important steps in writing a short story. From now on, I know what to do in order to write a good and effective story.

Prompt #34

: Parents are control freaks

Middle schoolers are probably the most stressed about their parents. Parents are simply described as two words: CONTROL FREAKS. I think that KIS is typically the most stressed-out middle schoolers because they use macs and macs can cause many problems.

Since macs are used in school, parents get worried that their child would do other things on the computer. The parents worry so they watch their child what they are doing and get into fights anc cause trouble. This situation would be repeated everyday and give tons of stress to the parent and the child.

Another way of receiving more stress is by parents telling their child what to do and what no to do. My mom always disciplines me for doing something wrong and repeats what she says over and over again, which gives my mind go nuts. Students try to keep focused on their work but their parents keep on saying what to do and to higher your grades and to do your work faster.

Prompt #35

Three people are stuck in an elevator: a teenager with green hair and many piercings, a pastry chef, and a church organist. Write a conversation they have as they wait.

The lights in the elevator blasted off and stopped going down the floors. The teenager started to frown and seemed to not care. On the other hand, the pastry chef and the church organist was shocked with fear. The pastry chef, holding a huge wedding cake screamed with fear. The organist started to kneel down and pray. " Why are you people so scared? There's this thing called a phone, dude."the teen said. When he opened his phone, it said there was no connection, meaning no phone calls could be made. They were all stuck in here and no one could get them out because no one was in the building.

Hours passed by and the three men were getting exhasuted. They slouched down on the elevator floor, waiting for rescue. The teen played BomLINK on his phone, the pastry man fixed his cake and the church organist prayed to God. " Dudes, why are you so depressed?" The teen asked rudely. " I have to get this cake to the wedding but I'm hours late!" screamed the pastry chef. " I need to go to the church to play the organ every sunday but I cant!" bellowed the church organist. Hours of silence passed again, leaving the elevator very awkward. "What school do you go to, kid?" asked the chef. " Eral Heig high school. Why?" replied the teen. "You go to the same school as my boy." the chef talked back. After holding this conversation, the teen and chef found out that his son was the teens friend. "Have you ever thought of learning how to play the organ, chef?" asked the organist. " Actually, I really wanted to play it when I was young. After becoming old, I thought that I wouldn't even have a chance." Chef replied. The chef eventually decided to take lessons from the organist.

Then, there was footsteps walking across the hall. The three men banged on the elevator door and screamed, "Help!!" The man outside in the hall heared them three and told them that he would call 911. The firemen and police came and helped open the door. The three men wouldn't stop talking to each other, because they were so friendly with each other. Later on, those three met every week, having fun talking about that elevator incident.

IPods are little devices about the size of a cellphone. In it, you can put in songs by connecting it to a computer. Also, an iPod can hold pictures, movies, and games. Since it is an electronic, the screen lights up in the back so that you can look at what the screen says. You can control the loudness of the music and can listen to the music by just connecting the earphones to the iPod. It is like many discs in one little device but without the discs, only the song.

: Winter is comming! How to dress for winter.

Winter is finally coming. Even our first snow came down. The days are getting shorter, darker, and colder. You need to get warmer clothes and spend more money on Christmas decorations. Are you struggling on how to wear warmer clothes and not getting clothes? Then, I will tell you.

First of all, coats with fur inside are very cozy and warm. You probably will need this for the whole entire winter. Gloves, hats, scarves are the basics but UGG boots are very warm because they are actually made out of sheep wool. Since they are expensive, there are boots that look like UGGs but are much cheaper. To keep your feet warm, these boots are the best.

Lastly, to keep your whole body warm, wearing long sleeve shirts and having a sweater, and a coat over is the best way to keep warm. Also, wearing wool pants keeps your legs from getting dry and shivering. This winter, make sure you dont get sick!

Prompt #39

: What would you do with three wishes?

If I had 3 wishes, the first one would to be the richest person in the world, having no limited amount of money. I could get anything I want and wouldn't be scared of running out of money and spending it too much. I could live in the biggest house in the world, have as much cars as I wanted.

My second wish would that I could be the smartest person in the world, so I could invent new inventions that would help the human race and help with life. If I was not smart, people would hate me and say that I am a selfish person that only thinks about herself and doesn't help others. I would give money to hospitals so that all over the world, everyone would be happy and healthy.

Lastly, I would wish for freedom. My mom and dad never let go of me and think of me as a little child that has no responsibility. I wish that my parents would not tell me to raise my grades, to not play, and just say stuff that kids and teens do not want to hear. With these three wishes, I would become the happiest person in the world.

What's your idea of the perfect vacation?

My idea of a perfect vacation is going to Florida, Miami, or Hawaii and spending the whole day on the beach, swimming, tanning, and eating.

I always wanted to eat crabs and other delicious foods on the beach. Out of the four seasons, I LOVE summer because I like the son a lot. I think this is because I come from a country where winters are very cold and long.

When I go on the beach, I love the hot son on my skin because it makes me warm and feel safe. People should take my advise and go on a vacation to one of these three places and enjoy the beach and sun!

: As this is being written, a show called "What not to wear." is popular on the cable channel TLC. Imagine more possible shows on "what no to do" theme. Describe at least on idea. (Don't forget to give a name.)

As the world gets more developed and smarter, parents send children to more acadamies and pay more tutors. This causes the students to get more stressed out and become more angry and annoyed easily.

Parents should treat their children as they were treated by their parents, NOT worse. This way, life becomes more fair and a happy place. No one is angry and anyyoed. They become warm-hearted people.

The world can become a better place by treating your children as the way you were treated!

Prompt #42

: Winter break

For the winter break, there are many things that you can do to enjoy the break. Three things that you can do are.. go skiing, watcing movies at home, and going to saunas.

Skiing isn't a cultural thing that only one country does. Mostly everyone in the world goes skiing or snowboarding. The feeling of the cool brisk air running through your face is very enjoyable and going down the slopes is very scary but fun.

Since winter is very cold, people that don't like winter can stay home and watch movies or go to saunas to keep warm. While watching movies, you should always eat butter popcorn and a cup of hot chocolate!

Snow White (dwarfs version)

As we were coming back from the mining cave, we found something very strange. The house lights were on! We never left the lights on, at any time of the year. We imediately thought that there was a robber in the house so we all quietly tiptoed in through the door and silently walked into the house. The house was..clean! Some of us thought that it was a nice robber and some of us didn't. The floor was swept, chairs dusted, cobwebs gone, and the whole place was clean. Then, we found out that someone stole our dishes. There was none in the sink! But after, one of us found then in the cupboard. They were all washed and clean. Someone was in the house. As we tiptoed up the stairs, there was a ghost laying on the bed! As the ghost lifted its body up, we found out that it was the princess sleeping. We greeted her and she decided to take care of us and feed us.

Everyone loved her except for grumpy. Grumpy wanted her out of the house and never acted kindly to her. The next day, as we went to work, each one of us gaining a kiss from the princess, we went to mine diamonds again. As we were, there came a huge group of animals coming our way and as we tried to stop them, they started to pull us and running toward our house. As we did, we saw an evil-looking hag that was talking and giving an apple to snow white! We tried to stop her but they went inside the house and snow white ate the apple. She immediately dropped and lay on the floor.

The next day, we made her grave and put flowers around it. As we stared through the glass at snow white, tears were running down and each and every one of us were very sad. That moment, a price came through the woods on his horse and gently opened the glass lid and kiss snow white. Surprisingly, snow white opened her eyes and came back alive! The prince and her lived happily ever after and we, the dwarfs met her everyday and cleaned our house one a month.

Prompt #43

: For the last two days you were not in school becasue of te weather- "snow days". As advanced we have become in the 21st century, we still can not control the weather. Do you think this is an advantage or a disadvantage?

I think that not being able to control the weather is an disadvantage because we cannot control the weather as we like it to be. If we want it to be warm because of some outdoor activities, the weather changes by itself and if we want it to snow for skiing, it might not snow.

The world would become more organized and comfortable because we would know when to make appointments and meetings on a good day. Also, children would be more happy because if they want it to snow more, then it can snow as much as they like and parents could stop the snow.

School trips might get cancelled or delayed because it might snow or rain. If we can control the weather, then we don't have to worry about delaying or cancelling a school trip. Everything in the world would be clear, comfortable, and neaty organized.

Prompt #45

: Most important objects for me: IPOD, MAC

If there was a fire, I would grab exactly two things out of the house: my IPOD and my MAC. Without these, I would not be able to do anything. For my 5th grade birthday present, I received the first generation of IPOD touch. I loved it so much that from then on, I listened to it and brought it everywhere I would go.

Especially this year, as I take choir, I fell more into music than I did before. In the car, if I didn't bring my IPOD, I would go crazy. Literally. My MAC is proablly most important because ALL my school files and important notes are in there, and it wouldn't be pleasing to lose them. I hate it if someone touches my MAC and plays with it so it shows people that I care a lot about it.

In conclusion, my IPOD and my MAC is the most important 2 objects that I own. If there was a fire, I would only bring these two objects because they are most important for me.

Prompt #50

:Erica Jong said, “If you don’t risk anything, you risk more. Write about what this means to you.

"If you don't risk anything, you risk more." This quote can mean different things to everyone. For me, it means that if you don't contribute anything, you are risking yourself to be less successful.

For example, if there is a essay to right and you don't know what topic to write about, you should always take a risk and write about a topic that you are unsure about. This always can get a better grade than not taking a risk and writing about something that you know about and can write easiliy.

If you dont take a risk, then you would risk more because then you will be risking your grade and essay. This quote makes sense.
