Readers Response

I think it is sad the way the other students are treating her. I think think its sad because they are punishing her for something she is and she cannot change. I think they are doing this to her because they are jealous that she can still remember what the sun looks like.

Thematic Focus

I would say to the other children that they were very childish and they only did that because they envy her because she can still remember seeing the sun back on planet earth. I would also say how would they fell if they had a chance to see the sun for the first or second time of your life, but you were stuck in a closet because a bunch of childish children put you in there.

Check Your Comprehension:

All the students are excited at the beginning of the story because Margot told them that it would stop raining today. She said that the scientists said so that you would be able to see the sun.
Margot knows more about the sun because she was born on earth and came here to live. Although she came here at an early age she can still remember what the sun looked like and felt liked
Just before the rain stops the children put margot in a closet because they think that she was lying about the rain stopping.
During the two hours that they are able to play outdoors in the sun they run around and play games such as tag, hide and seek, and other games. They all do this while Margot is still stuck in the closet
At the very end of the story the children open the closet and let Margot out.
It is dangerous because you cannot get them back.

Interpret:

I think that all the children are unkind to Margot because they are jealous that she can remember what the sun looks like.
The children reject Margot's descriptions because they force them selves to believe that whatever she says is a lie
I think that all the children go along with the prank that is pulled on Margot because they all don’t like her very much. They are also very jealous that she got to see the sun and think that she is lying about saying that the sun will come out today. So they all decide to stick her in the closet.
At the end I think that they would have gone and got Margot and let her play with them out in the sun.
I think they feel like they have done something bad and know that they shouldn’t have done and probably regret doing it.
I think that this story can be applied to life in our world because some times you need to wait for things to happen they don’t just happen right on the spot. This is what happened to Margot because her friends thought that she was lying because what she said would happen did not happen right then.
I think Sandburg is saying that they are strong and tough.
Because I think that it is a simple story but it has a big moral in it and the definition of Primer is From a simple textbook for teaching basic reading and morals.

Extend

I think that they will teach her with a little bit more respect after they did that to her because what they did to her was so bad.
Because I think that Margot has proud words.
